Then..
My body trembled as I left him to Applefrost, I had to leave the nursery, my body threatening to race back and take my only surviving kit into my paws. Pebblefoot and Wolfheart hugging close to my sides as if sensing my thoughts, as I sobbed for the loss of my kits. My body on the verge of just collapsing in the snow at the pressure in my heart. I wish to do just that, but with Wolfstar so close to Starclan, Wolfclan needs all the leadership it can get.
"Redstorm we know you are filled with grief after this but you need to be strong, we're in the middle of leaf-bare with a nursery full of kits, and there are elders who might not make it through the season if we don't do something." Pebblefoot said with upmost seriousness in her voice, Wolfheart nodding in agreement. Giving out a shaky sigh as I willed my body to cease sobbing for now. Why Wolfstar didn't make Pebblefoot deputy still confuses me. She always knew what to do or what to say whether it'd be conflict from the angels or running out of prey. I know when I become leader she'll be my deputy, I don't think I can make it without her.
Pebblefoot, still looking for an order waited patiently by my side for me to clear my head. Wolfheart tried but failed, now swishing her tail in irritation. Snapping my head out of the clouds I began directing orders as the deputy should be.
"I agree Pebblefoot, with many kits in the nursery we need to hunt to provide enough for them to survive, and with the angels snooping around it won't be any easier. Wolfheart, I need you to take Tawnypelt, and Owleyes for the dusk patrol. Pebblefoot, take Robinwing, Sparrowpelt, and Sunpelt on a hunting party. Get Cinderfur or Breezepelt to help Frecklewish find any herbs that may be usable. Come back before moon high." I ordered out praying to Starclan the angels keep to themselves. We don't need a war especially if an Archangel decides to get involved. I involuntarily shuddered, remembering how much death they could bring. Walking to the den by high rock, I suddenly remembered how cold it was out here. The small snowflakes slowly building up as I pushed past the moss and lichen sheltering the den. Recoiling as the stench of death and sickness filling the air as the loving father and powerful leader a shadow of his former self. Where there used to be strong muscle is now bone with loosely hanging skin and thinning fur. I walked closer and knelt down beside and began to groom his thinning fur. Opening his eyes, Wolfstar smiled up at me, his gaze filled with love and warmth as he was losing his last life. My heart shattered even more as I watched the father I know, the one who has lead his clan for seasons without war. Who challenged the archangel Micheal to a duel if it meant peace for this clan. Now, struggling for just a breath of air I snuggled in closer to his thin frame, just as I've done when I was an apprentice fearing as if I would lose his warmth if I moved away.
"You'll be a brave leader, Redstorm." Wolfstar huffed out, nuzzling into my thicker coat as a chill of the snow swept through the den. Puffing out my fur to give him extra warmth I nuzzled my head under his, as if I was still a kit. Chuckling at this he rested his head on mine still taking shallow quick breaths of air.
"If Dapplefur were still here she'd be proud of you and your sisters for what you've done. Probably more than me knowing her." I felt a smile light his face as he talked about his deceased mate, my mother really. She would be watching from Starclan as I receive my nine lives.......
"Redstorm, Redstorm wake up!" A rough shove on my side startled me awake. Heaving myself up I looked at Frecklewish with worry.
"The angels are coming to the camp!!" She said with terror. I stalked out of the den in a defensive way, Wolfstar died later on in the night, leaving his body in the middle of camp so everyone else can grieve for him while I dealt with the new responsibility of leader with Pebblefoot as my deputy.Walking through the lichen I faced down the three angels in Wolfclan's camp. Forcing my lips not to curl back as a snarl built up in my throat. Not being one of god's creations puts you on a hit list with angels. I let my anger simmer down as Pebblefoot talked to them, better than what I would have done.
"What we want to know is who'll lead you now that he's dead." One of them, Uriel if I remember correctly spoke out, breaking the peaceful talk. Climbing up to high rock I gave out a loud yowl signaling a clan meeting. "Let all cat's old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath high rock for a Clan meeting!!" I called out. Letting all of them come to sit and watch.
"Now Uriel, I begin with authority laced in my voice, you seem forget that there is a deputy who takes the place of the leader once they've passed, you should know who that deputy is." I held my voice monotone as to not let my anger slip out.Giving a scoff Uriel once again was about to retort but was stopped short when another shoved him away. The trench coat and blue eyes gave away to who he was.
"We know about that, but you know of the upcoming war that is soon to happen? The apocalypse." Castiel said in a matter of fact tone. Now I know why they're here.
"Even if we do agree to join forces, you'll start up the apocalypse anyway. Why help if you want the world to end?" I questioned out to them, my warriors giving yowls of agreement as Castiel looked emotionless as ever, though it seems I've struck a nerve in him. "I ask you to leave now as you won't get a change of heart." I watched as they prepared to leave, Castiel turning his head as though to question me on what I really know. "You won't get a change of heart either, worms." Uriel growled out causing some warriors to get into a battle stance. Yowling at them to stand down, we watched as the last angel teleported out of camp. The meeting over, I jumped down from high rock and trotted over to Frecklewish to prepare for our journey to the moonstone.'Starclan help us all, the apocalypse is almost upon us and with angels and demons on the warpath, I'm terrified that Wolfclan won't make it out of this alive.' I prayed hoping there to be an answer, a sign, something.
But there never was....
