One cloudless noon,

I was walking

along an alien alley;

Behind a lamp post

embraced by creepers,

I saw a pair of swollen

eyes gawking at me.

A boy.

I stopped. The sun revealed

his face –innocent and muddy,

with eyes as bright as the yolk of an egg.

My heart crumpled.

My insides growled with grief.

The lamp post, the swollen eyes,

the beam of sunshine that revealed his face—

Like a falling leaf, I was swallowed by

desolation.
