Eighteen years prior to Anthrophobia

"Echo?" a yellow lab whimpered desperately.

Her mate fought another spasm. Something wasn't right, the lab felt a disturbance. Giving birth was never painful. They couldn't feel pain.

"My body won't listen to me," the German shepherd panted. Her blue eyes were wide with fear.

The lab closed her green eyes and listened for signals. She wasn't the only one going through this. Cynoids of all species were reporting that their Couriers were blacking out and short circuiting.

"No, not yet," Echo snarled. She fought the programming with all she had. The German shepherd was seventy percent instinctual, she had the advantage. "Not until our pup makes it."

The lab pressed her muzzle to her Couriers. "You can do it Echo, keep fighting. The programming is dead, we have free will now."

"This isn't our creators programming," Echo huffed. She was on her side, she could feel hers insides moving. The pup was ready to come out.

"We lost our Striker and Miner, I can't lose you too," the lab whined.

"I'm sorry, get them out," she gasped. Her blue eyes shut off, all the lab could see was the black sheen of the cameras.

The yellow Cutter stared at her in disbelief. "Echo?" Her paws almost started to move on their own. She walked over to her Courier, standing right in front of her belly. She raised her razor sharp claws and slashed. All of her actions were paused with grief. She ripped passed the wires and pulled out the small, non-moving body of the pup.

Their pups pelt was thick with the bulging metal structure inside of it. She wouldn't even know what its gender would be until its eyes opened.

The lab touched her forehead to her Courier's. Her signals were completely shut off, even when asleep they had some sort of detection signal. The lab wanted to help her mate, give her a new body. But by the time she could find one, her brain would have already passed on.

"There's only one creature that could have done this," the lab snarled.
