We're lying down on the damp grass. The stars are shining bright above us and the orange light of a little bonfire is surrounding us.
We're looking for an earth scroll since ours is stolen. Tomorrow's the last day and if we dont reach the tower with two scrolls in our pocket by then, we'll fail our second exam.
But right now, we're spying a group of three hidden mist ninja. We've been doing that all day since the sound ninja attacked. And so we knew that they own both scrolls. And as predicted, they are resting here to continue their trip to the tower next morning.
Two ninja are sleeping and the other one -a boy with funky black hair is staring into the fire. This has been going on for quite a while now.
"I think this is a good moment to attack" Shikamaru whispered.
"What makes you think so, Shikamaru?" I wondered.
"Well," Shikamaru began "point one: you see that boy over there? He's guardening the other two, but his job's almost done, soon he'll wake another team member and he'll go back to sleep.
But right now he doesn't think there will be any attacks at the very last of his duty, so he'll pay less attention. Plus he's all tired.
Second: he's staring into the bonfire. That makes his eyes used to the light and he needs time to get used to the dark, where we will be coming from.
And third: if we wait a little longer, this boy over here wouldnt be sleeping, or if he's so tired that he did, he's still in the first station of his sleep, which will make him wake up earlier.
And the same goes for the other two if we would attack earlier. So the right timing is very important."
I was amazed that he thought that far ahead. But once he said it, it sounded very logical.
"Okay, I think you're right. Lets go then!" I said.
We all got up and stormed towards the boy with the black hair, our weapons ready. He almost had a heartattack when he saw us coming.
"Hey! Jane! Gerald! Wake up!! We're being attacked!!" He shouted.
The other two woke up in confusion.
Shikamaru was right I thought.
Of course he was, I said silently to myself. He always is in situations like this.
But before Jane and Gerald could stand up, the boy with black hair was pinned down at the ground by Kiba.
"Give us the earth scroll and we won't kill you." he said calmly
"Ja-Jane, p-p-please give th-them the ea-earth scroll, will you?" the boy sputtered.
Another rule of the exam was that all team members had to be alive at the tower in order to pass. So they definitely couldn't win if kiba killed the boy right now.
Not that he planned to, kiba wasn't like that, but they didn't know.
The girl named Jane quickly got the earth-scroll out of her pocket and gave it with shaking hands to me.
"Please let Eric go now." she said.
I tested if the scroll was real and when I came to the conclusion that it was, I said that Kiba could let the boy go now. He let out a sigh and we quickly jumped away.
"Yeah, we did it!" I said happily.
"All thanks to Shikamaru's great planning!"
I high-fived him and he and Kiba laughed at my happiness. Akamaru barked happily too.
We didn't made the same mistake as Jane, Eric, and Gerald did, and jumped right towards the tower.
When we finally got there we had to solve one final mistery Iruka-sensei gave us.
But with Shikamaru's brain, it wasn't a big problem and we could solve it easily and fast.

*a couple days further*
I ran towards Kiba, my sword ready to attack. He didnt saw me coming and quickly turned around while dodging my sword.
"Whoa Lidian, easy!" he said confused.
"Heh!" I said. "You'd wish!"
He jumped backwards and attacked me with his gatsuga.
I tried to dodge it but I most of the time I had to block it with my sword. When he stood on his feet again, my sword was coming right towards him.
I could control my sword with my chakra and so I can sent it flying to wherever I want it to go to. And now it was going strait towards Kiba's heart.
Kiba couldn't dodge it that fast so the sword hit its target and Kiba screamed it out when his body fell on the ground.
Lifeless.
Not that it ever had a life in the first place, cause just a second after that it puffed away and the real Kiba came jumping from above, a kunai ready.
All I could do was blocking it with my sword. Kiba landed in front of me and his kunai scraped at my sword. We both jumped back at the same time and looked at each other.
"You're stronger than I expected, Lidian." Kiba said with a grin.
"And you better know it!" I said.
Kiba smiled. "Im happy that I don't have to fight you in the third exam. And I'm pretty sure you're holding it in right now.'
"Hey I don't really want to hurt you." I said smiling.
"But I hope I don't have to fight to that Gaara guy. Or Uchiha Sasuke, that would be a disaster!"
"No, I don't think I could win against those two either." Kiba said.
"Well, lets call it a day. Tomorrow's a big day after all!"
"Yeah," I said. "the third exam. We better get a good night rest."
I looked at the sky. It was dark already.
Shikamaru, Kiba and I have been training all day cause tomorrow's the third exam. We fought each other and we practised our shiruken skills. Mine weren't to good. The only thing I'm really good at is fighting with my sword. If I hadn't got it, I wouldnt be a good ninja. I wouldnt be a ninja at all I guess..
But never mind that.
Kiba and I waved bye to each other and went home.
I lived alone in an nice little house.
I went upstairs and took a shower. Then I changed into my pajamas and went in bed.
I quickly fell into a deep, soft sleep.
to be continued...
