"Shush," I whisper to Lexi while we crouch behind a bush. Our lives are f***ed up.
I'm Kayta and I am forced to fight in the "war" with my siblings, Lexi and Mika. We are stuck
in a big arena and have to fight for our lives in every way possible. Our government decided this
was the best way to help decrease our population. Our government actually did a poll on the war
and it turns out that ten out of fifteen families have at least one relative in it. A lot of the older
generation thought it was surprising that the government offs the younger generation and not the old.
Our grandmother was extremely upset that Lexi, whose ten, was selected along with Mika,16,
and myself, 15.
Nobody understands why we fight. We could obviously rebel against the government and easily
win since there is over 2000 people fighting in this war.
We just attack each other when we get near unless we are blood-related. We have to keep fighting,
we can't have any of our old luxuries: showers, parents, and fresh clothes. The only things we
could bring with us were the clothes on
our back. The government supplied everything else. By that I mean the weapons. The biggest
worry on my mind was the fact that I wouldn't know if we would live to see tomorrow.
Mika left our hideout in search of food. Lexi and I stayed behind to keep watch. Today was the
first day, so everyone is forming teams and alliances and searching for hideouts. Occasionally, if
you're lucky, you'll find blankets, and food. Weapons and ammunition are the most common
though. We've been fortunate enough to find four blankets,a gun, and a bow with thirteen arrows.
Lexi is... was on an archery team,so she was given the bow and the arrows. Mika has the gun and
I'm weapon less, so I probably won't leave the hideout until I'm armed.
We heard rustling at the entrance and Lexi quickly whipped out an arrow and had it notched
before the stranger had even entered the cave.
"Wowowowowowow! Hold on girls it's just me." Mika exclaimed although he seemed pretty
happy that Lexi had armed herself so quickly. Mika stepped completely in with a bag in his hand.
"Where did you get that bag?" I asked. We weren't able to find any bags.
"Hold on with the questions until I move this boulder into place." Mika had taken aikido before
we were sent here, so he was really strong and tactical.
"So, bag where'd you get it from?" Lexi asked wanting to know
"I found it." he replied setting it down pulling out: matches, a baseball bat, some berries, a water
bottle, and a pack of nuts.
"Here" he said tossing me the bat
"Great. We all have weapons now!" lexi cheered silently
"I'm not kicking anyones a** with this" I looked at the bat "Then don't, smash someones skull
with it" she smiled
"Freak" I mumbled to myself.
"Anyways, I heard from some others that theres a crick u-" he started
"You mean creek?" i asked correcting him "whatever, a crEEk" he said emphasizing the 'eek' I
smile back at his correction.
After we ate some berries and a few nuts we all decided to lay down I was about to fall asleep
Until Lexi spoke "do you think mom and dad watch us at night?" she said, our parents died
recently in a tragic car wreck
"I don't know..." I said falling asleep.
