Andy and I just stood there neither of us wanting to leave the others company, despite the short time knowing each other. It seemed as though we were being pulled together by something stronger than will or stubbornness.
No, it was something more. I couldn't figure it out, so I just stood there and looked into his glassy eyes.
We stayed there for so long that I started to shiver. I didn't notice at first, but the frozen air hanging around us had finally gotten to me. "Oh, you're shivering, here." He said taking off his heavy overcoat and trying to drape it around my shaking form. "No ," I said trying to push the offer back toward him. "Then you will be cold," I said looking at him, surprising myself at how much I cared for him more than myself. If I was being perfectly honest with myself I was caring about this man more than the people that I actually know and have known. "I don't care if I am cold, I can take the cold," he said as he put the coat around my shivering form. Then Andy put his arm loosely around my shoulders and we started walking. I'm not sure where we were going and I am not even sure if he knew, but there we were. We were walking for what seemed like hours, but I knew it was only minutes. He told me about his family that he left home to college, he had some trouble starting off. I imagined it was hard seeing as this is Northern California (and yes it snows in California). He said he worked at a mechanic shop a few blocks from here. I don't know why but talking to him seemed to calm me.
After we walked less than two blocks we found a little coffee shop to sit in and keep warm. "Do you want anything?" I asked him while looking at the board that showed all off the drinks they sold. It sat above the wood counter with a glass display case showing off the different pastries inside. He looked at me with a look of confusion laid across his face before shrugging and saying "A black coffee is fine, but may I pay for it?" He asked me with a sort of light behind his eyes and confidence in his voice. "Nope." I said bluntly as I turned toward the cashier and ordered for both of us and payed for the beverages. After I ordered I turned around walking right past Andy ,who had a slightly stunned expression now, and found a table to sit at by the window. He stood there for a second and then followed me to sit down. He looked at me curiously and then said " You're a stubborn one aren't you?" I looked at him and then smirked "No, how did you ever figure that out?" I said animatedly, sarcasm heavily laced into my words. "Well it's not impossible to tell." He said smiling widely. We sat there in the warmth of the dimly lighted coffee shop in silence. It wasn't uncomfortable or awkward like it usually is with people I know. It was comfortably quiet. He stared at me while I gazed down to my fidgety hands. It was not the harsh judging gaze that I usually received. It was a soft gaze that held something I had never seen anyone look at me with. I had seen people in the streets looking at each other like this, but never at me. It couldn't be that though. We had only just met. It couldn't be. We sat like this for a moment before our order was called and Andy got up to go and get the drinks. I sat there and contemplated everything that happened that day.
What is happening?(A/N): Hello, again. This is the second chapter. I hope you like it. I am going to try and update every week or at least every other week, but no promises because I have the memory of a goldfish.
Love, Liz
