claire blossom sat at her vanity table getting ready for dinner with her mother. she coated her lashes with mascara and her lips with red lipstick. she stood up looking at her self in a full length mirror, smoothing her dress, running her fingers through her hair. "hey twinkie, are you ready" alice asked peaking her head around claire's bedroom door. "yeah, i'll be right down." she replied. she put on her favourite perfume before following alice downstairs. cheryl was coming to pick her up at five and it was 4:55. "come here" alice said. claire walked over to her. alice licked her thumb and wiped some of her eyeshadow off. claire groaned "alice!" "you need to let you skin breathe baby" she replied. there was a knock at the door. alice hugged claire tightly, not wanting to let go, knowing what her mother was capable of. claire pulled away to go answer the door. there was cheryl standing in their doorway wearing her serpent jacket and black skinny jeans. "cheryl! mum's gonna kill you when she sees you wearing that" claire said to her sister. "who cares, she can't tell me what to do anymore" cheryl laughed. "bye alice" claire said turning around and waving. "love you tootsie" alice replied "love you too" claire closed the door behind her and followed her sister to her red buick. when they reached the large gates of the thornhill manor, claire's heart started racing. cheryl noticed her stress and held her little sister's hand. she parked in the driveway, got out of ther car and knocked on the door. penelope answered "cheryl, claire" she nodded. "good lord cheryl, is that a serpent's jacket you're wearing!?" she exclaimed, "are you involved in this street gang too, claire?" "yes, mother" claire replied with her head down. they all sat around the dinner table awkwardly, not talking to each, just eating. "so claire, do you enjoy living with the cooper's" penelope broke the silence. "yes, i do and i love going to riverdale high and going to pop's with my friends and going to the bijou. i just love living in Riverdale." claire replied truthfully. "pop's... hmmm how... common" penelope smiled. claire forced a smile back to her spiteful mother. she was just glad that she decided to live with alice instead. "well, what subjects are you good at in school?" she continued. "i'm good at english and art, not really maths." claire trailed off. "well that's not good enough, a blossom is good at everything!" penelope explained "cheryl, please tell me that you have her on your junior vixen team." "well actually it's her junior vixen team now," cheryl told her mother. "well, that's good enough, i suppose. as soon as they had finished dinner, cheryl suggested that they leave and thank goodness she did because claire couldn't stand another minute with that woman
