Everyone’s settled in class and Monique takes her seat beside Jay. The teacher, Mrs Madrigal comes in and so does a girl with black hair blonde highlights; Ivy who comes when she feels.
“Good morning, everyone.”
“Good morning, Mrs Madrigal.” “Before we start today’s lesson, I’d like to welcome you all back and advise you all on what you are about to face and how to prepare for it.”
***********One hour later***********

RIIIIIINNNNGGGG!!! The alarm goes off and class is dismissed. Monique is walking the with Jay, when she turns and sees Preston Ridge; the head of the school’s basketball team and also the head of the school “hotshots”. He is Ivy Winchell; the head of the school’s cheerleading team. Preston is reclining against Zeek’s locker with his posse around him and Ivy way upon him. They are chest to chest.

“Ugh.” Monique says almost loudly and turns to see Jay staring at her, confused.
“It’s Preston and Ivy. I hate sights like these. They feel like they rule the school and make out. It’s just so gross!” He shoots her a look that says “Sure you aren’t jealous? Just let them be.” She doesn’t say anything and turns back at them. She sees Zeek at a corner, near his locker, cowering while two of Preston’s guys are above him. “Poor boy.” She whispers to herself then sees Ivy look at her while telling Preston something for some time. They both shake their heads in agreement and turn to her. They are sniggering. Monique turns back to the school calendar on the notice board she was looking at and checks to see the date the school’s examinations start-she like to prepare ahead. After checking it, Jay and she leave to the cafeteria to have lunch.

“Hey there, girlfriend!” Rosette calls out. Sylvia turns around and sees her best friend waving wildly at her. She goes over to meet her and they hug.
“What’s the haps?” Rosette says as they both sit down at a table in a café.
“Well…” Sylvia starts talking but Rosette stops her.
“Hold that thought.” she says, “waiter” a waiter rushes over, “please, get me a cup of coffee and uhm… what do you want, Sylvia?” “Coffee’s fine.” “Okay, make that two cups of coffee.” The waiter scurries off.
“You were saying something, Sylvia?”
“Ah, yes! The haps.” Sylvia says. “hmmmm.” Rosette smiles.
“Well, my husband’s at work and the children are at school so I’m just at home-well , I’m here but if I were at home, I’d be watching TV, reading a book, sleeping-or just… doing nothing.” She says with a tone of finality.
“Sylvia! How do you cope? Wouldn’t it be boring? It could lead to psychological disorder you know; its ‘bout time we addressed this.”
“I’d be watching TV or reading a book.” Sylvia says.
“Come off that. Your C.V’s really good, you know. Have you tried finding something to do? Or getting a job? I mean, I have a part time job so I’m busy once in a while at least but you… ” she trails off then comes back.
“You really need to find something doing, girlfriend.” The waiter serves their coffee and as they drink,
“We’ll come back to that topic but for now, let’s enjoy this moment and talk about other things.” Some minutes later… They finish their coffee, pay the bills and leave.

Jay, Tyler and Monique jitter as they walk home. Jay is Monique’s neighbour so they go home together on foot when he isn’t hitching a ride home anytime her dad’s working late. They get home and finds Monique’s mom watching “The bachelor” with a bowl of microwaved popcorn and a cup of hot chocolate.
“Hey mom” Tyler and Monique say. “Hey kids, hey Jay” Sylvia replies. “Good afternoon, Mrs Campbell” Jay says and turns to Monique,
“Bye Mona.” Jay calls her Mona because he feels ‘Monique’ is too long and stressful. She corrects him lots-a-times but when he makes up his mind, it’s not rather likely to change. As he turns to go,
“Aren’t you staying for dinner tonight dear?” Sylvia asks.
“I’m sorry ma’am, not today. Gotta help my mom out with somethings” “Okay… but say ‘hi’ to her for me, K?”
“Sure thing” he says and leaves. It’s after seven o’ clock pm and Luke’s car pulls up the driveway. He comes in and Sylvia welcomes him the ‘husband and wife lovey dovey ichy smooch routine’. The Campbells are having dinner and Sylvia starts up a conversation.
“So, three Sundays from now is thanksgiving, you know?”
“I don’t get that stuff. Is it even a holiday?” Tyler says and Monique rolls her eyes.
“So mom, what are you… actually, we, planning to do this time?” Says Monique.
“Well dear, there will be a thanksgiving dinner as usual but this time, it won’t be just us. You guys should invite someone.”
“Yeah Monique” Luke says. She like the way he says her name. It sounds like ‘M-nik’.
“You can invite Jayden, Tyler can invite Ursula and Joseph, your mom can invite Rosette. A family and best friends.” He finishes.
“And I’ll also invite our relatives” Sylvia says.
“It’ll be a full house” They finish talking through dinner and everyone goes to bed.
