~Farkas~

I walk through the woods with careful steps as I breath in the pine scented cool air.
I exhale even more slowly than I walk not wanting to fog the air as to give away my position.
All I saw was in gray except for my target, a Vex Glader. Very nasty creatures, bodies like a giant serpent and long curved wings that grip the ground with two claws in the middle joint of the wing. The head is slender and mouth even narrower. It protects its eyes by literally pulling them deep into the socket which makes the claw like eye guards curve outward. Only females have horns, long gazelle like horns, the female is also bigger than the male and has iridescent scales that seem black and shine green.
I study this female and notice not green shine but purple, for an unknown reason females turn to the purple color when in heat. I started to wonder why males weren't flogging her, then I saw the bones I knew why.
She was sleeping on the ground which told me she feared nothing. The ridge around her cradled her body. She must be 25 feet in length.
I was close enough to touch her.
Sliding my foot towards her belly I bring myself closer to the ground. She was a queen. The spikes on her back barely stuck up as she slept. The normal female has no spikes along the back and isn't this big, her horns on farther examination had wicked looking serrated edges. I knew her, I knew her as a killer. An evil menacing devil, she was the one who could flatten herself against a wall and wait in a crowded village snapping people off the street within a instant and snap into the sky an be gone before anyone had time to react.
And I was the one sneaking now, she wasn't ready for anything. Her belly full of her own suitors making her slow, her scales were peeling on her side. A thin scratch, a putrid smell coming from it making me want to gag, the blood of vex wings is said to be that of the stench from hell.
As I slipped under her wing I knew it was a mistake. Her weight shifted and he pulled her wing up to her face to scratch an itch . She took a deep breath and sneezed then shook her head from side to side she stretched her neck high into the air and I heard every pop as I tucked myself closer under her wing hiding myself from her view. I sucked in air and bit the inside of my lip. I prayed to Odin hoping her own blood would mask my scent. Even if I had stored my armor and cloak in pine needles I was sure she might find my own flesh easy enough.
She curled but into a ball and her head was coming straight towards me as she folded her wing over it. I had no choice, if I didn't jump on top of her head her jaws would be at my stomach and I would be torn apart the moment she felt me .
So I leaped.
Launching myself at her horns I grabbed a hold of them and slipped onto her neck. Turning my body I seated myself right behind her head. Taking my rope I had on my waist I wrapped it around the base of her horns and pulled back as hard as I could. She had begun thrashing as soon as I sat down. Getting the rope tightened was tricky as her serrated horns scraped against it. Only I had this rope blessed by Laviam, a mage from FireFall. This rope was stronger than any metal, yet it felt light. She couldn't resist its might as she tried pulling away from me. Her screeches threatened to scatter me, crush and suffocate me. She shut her eyes tight and spread open her wings climbing into the sky. Straight up into the sky.

I felt myself sliding backwards. I knocked my feet together under her neck and wrapped the rope around my hands and wrists. Only then she dived. I undid my left hand and with the extra length of rope I had I whipped her neck with all my strength and pulled back harder on her horns. She growled deep within her throat and started to arch herself upward I tried whip her again but she pulled her head to the side sharply and spun us around in a circle while spinning. I felt myself slipping and giving out. Only she wasn't going to lose me that easy.  I tucked myself under her horns and held my rope with my right hand, the left still holding the extra. She dipped, twirled, snapped and hissed. She started panting and I felt her wings falter. She couldn't keep this up. I was tied to her and couldn't get off if I wanted to. The rope had notted itself in my gauntlet and I dared not unhook my foothold. So I did something different and risky. I tilted my head down and bit her soft patch of skin as hard as I could. She shivered and whined dying for me to release my bite. I gave her slack on the rope and slowly released my jaws that had locked in place. Rested my chin on the spot and she started to glide down to the ground. But I pulled her towards my father's camp. The inner part of her wing grew and curved forming a bubble of sorts and she floated down to the ground then released the air in her wing and slithered forward resting her head on the ground crying in her throat. My father stepped out of the shadows and grinned. "Hey little champion." this has been his nickname for me since I could walk. "Where's Vilkas and mother?" I ask. "I got this beast for her." I smile rubbing the vex wing's head. BloodMoon,my father, huffed into the wind. "That woman tried biting my damn head off this morning." I frown and furrow my brow. "She having those visions again?" I ask. Father growled and shook his head. "You'll understand when your stuck with a-" He was cut short and quickly said "A very beautiful woman." A blazing white wolf stepped into the camp, violet eyes narrowed. A large snake hanging from her jaws. She tossed it into the air and my mother turned back into her mortal form chasing the snake in her arms. "I brought lunch for my oh so powerful chief of WolfBane clan." she rolled her eyes at my father. " Oh my little wild devil cat." My mother has a personal hate of this name he gave her. "Dont make me kill you." she smiled. I slid off of the vex wing and lead her over to my mother. WildBlade was my mother's  name. Her original name was Silonca, but names kinda form for some of us here in WolfBane. My mother's fake smile changed to a real one and she said "Maybe you need breakfast first." she knelt in front of the queen and offered the snake. "Come on Majesty." my mother rubbed the vex wings nose with her knuckles while it ate the snake. "Your now Majesty. You perfect beast.." Putting a hand under Majesty's head she raised it and stood up with it cradled in her arms stroking the queen's forehead and scratching in between her horns. My mother looked at me with anger while rubbing it's neck. "Did you bite her?! Farkas I told you that's not a way to win a beast over!" She scowled at me. "Mother..." I sighed. "Do you like her or not?" I ask. "I love her." my mother kissed the queen on the nose. "I'll pair her with Dagger." My mother was half SwiftWind, her way with flying beasts was perfect, they always love her. I was a quarter SwiftWind but it didn't really help. I'm just a good rider.
Every 5 months a few warriors go out and kill vex wings. I just catch them for mother. Vilkas walks into camp and scoffs. "Will you ever just kill these things? They're useless." My mother snarled at him and said "I can sell those hatchlings to SwiftWind trainers. Don't be stupid Vilkas." My mother never liked Vilkas really. Most mothers here only cared for their first born. Some give in to their beast forms and kill any younger children they have. Vilkas was lucky. A few call him SecondBorn. A nickname that's worn with honor by a few people whose mother didn't kill them. Vex wings have a similar thing. Where they eat the smallest egg they have.
Vilkas looked at the ground and nodded. My mother had a right to kill him if she wanted to. Its said the most energy is put into the first born, any other child wouldn't have enough spirit to live anyway. But since Vilkas was heavy and born under a blue moon mother said there should be enough magic in him to keep him.

With the vex wing gold pieces mother gets at the sale she had enough to keep us both. But if my brother had been a griffin or vex he would've been loved much more. I was the first to be fed and first to get anything.

"So Vilkas.. Did you kill a vex wing?" I grin . He glared daggers at me then looked at the ground. "No.." He snarled. "Maybe in 5 months you'll get one." I say. "Sure. Whatever you say. You'll see one day I can best you..." He walked away from me and faded into the forest.
