Hannah, the new girl at school. A school in a small town, where everyone knew each other. Along with all of each other's business. Nothing was private in this place. The newest conversation started when a recently divorced single mother and her 17 year old daughter abruptly moved in to a cosy apartment on top of the coffee shop. Jolie the owner was kind enough to offer Hannah's mother Kate a discount on the rent, for once she was in a similar situation, she knew the struggle and had great sympathy.
Kate had lost everything when her Husband had decided he'd rather be with someone Hannah's age- barely a few years above her in school. He walked out and didn't look back. Hannah had to forget potential college options. The funds just weren't there, her mom was breaking her back to cover basic bills, let alone the tuition. They both left everything behind and started a new life in Crystal Canyon, population 2862. Now, 2864.
Starting over was something Hannah was not used too. She left her best friends Kim and Emily behind, which was so hard for her. She hadn't felt so lonely in a long while. But this was all for her mom. How she was feeling couldn't compare to what her mom was going through. She had to shake the selfish thoughts out of her head. She was not the priority right now.
School was mundane, the same everyday. Nobody wanted to become Hannahs friend, but yet Hannah didn't want to try. She Kim and Emily had been best friends since kindergarten, she never needed to make new friends, she had it all with those two. She didn't even realise she didn't know how to socialise, how to make friends. It was just so natural with the girls. They weren't friends. They were family. The texts and phone calls are still there, but not like they used to be. Something is missing now.
The school week was drawing to a close, it had been a month or so now, everyone deciding what they are going to do after graduation and Hannah still trying to float by almost invisible and just finish day after day, week after week. "Why make any friends when they would probably move out of this small town soon" she thought.
