Everyone knew that Mad Teddy Smith was the fuck buddy of the notorious Ronnie Kray, but what people didn't know was that he was also the fuck buddy to someone else. It had to stay that way. If Ronnie was to find out that Teddy was fucking someone else he would kill both of them... both of us. I was Ronnie's assistant and had been since I was 16. He took me under his wing so I could escape my controlling father who was trying to train me to be a stay at home wife... but I didn't want that.
We knew the risk we were taking. I think that's one of the reasons we didn't stop, the adrenaline. We had to be careful though, we'd almost been caught a handful of times.
I was standing in the club by the bar. I was wearing a black dress, ending half way up my thighs. I sipped my glass of whisky as I scanned the room, observing who had turned up. Many regulars, a few new faces and a few famous faces. I watched as some upper class socialites gossiping with Barbara Windsor, their husbands sat round a table ignoring their existence.
Reggie and Frances were sat at their usual table watching the performance, cuddled up together. That's what I wanted. Love. I'd never been in a relationship. Everyone just wanted me for my body. No one wanted to date Ronnie Kray's assistant. People assumed I was crazy just like he was, which isn't entirely true. I'd learnt to toughen myself up and protect myself, but I wasn't violent like him unless Ronnie told me too, which wasn't very often. Men liked to brag that they slept with Crazy (Y/N), Ronnie put a stop to that quickly. A few of them started disappearing and the bragging stopped quickly.
"You alright, (Y/N)?" I turned my head to see Ronnie standing next to me, offering me a cigarette. I accepted and lit it.
"Of course," I said , as I exhaled, smoke hiding my face momentarily, "just keeping an eye on everyone, making sure no one is causing trouble."
"You seen Leslie or Teddy about?" I shook my head as I took another drag, "you did tell them to be here tonight didn't you?"
"Told them last night. Jack the Hat is round the back, said he needed to talk to you about something." Ronnie nodded.
"Tell the boys to meet me there when they show up." I nodded and watched him walk round the back. I sighed as I watched couples dance to Timi Yuro's flawless singing, all of them smiling at how lucky they are. I wished to be that lucky, but some people just aren't meant for love.
Teddy and Leslie walked in a little while later. I downed the rest of my glass and walked over to them.
"You're late."
"What, no hello? No, how are you?" Teddy teased smirking.
"Round the back now, Ronnie is waiting for you." I turned and walked to the back, the boys following behind me quickly. Ronnie was sitting in a booth a couple away from Jack. He stood up when he saw the boys. They walked over to Jack, I followed behind sitting at the table opposite them. Jack was sweating profusely, this wasn't going to end well.
Jack and Ronnie spoke quietly, the boys glaring at Jack. He looked like he was on the verge of shitting himself. Teddy would break his glare to glance over at me, winking at me before turning back to the others. I couldn't hear what was being said but Ronnie was pissed. Ronnie stood up to leave, Jack's face relaxed. Ronnie smirked before smashing Jack's head onto the table before walking away. I rolled my eyes and got up, Jack's nose was streaming with blood and clearly broken. I grabbed a napkin and shoved it up towards his nose.
"Come on, out." I snapped at him. He got up and started to walk off. I grabbed the back of his collar and pulled him back. "Not that way you fucking idiot, out the back." I dragged Jack to the back exit and pushed him out of the door. He stared at me blankly, the napkin now soaked in his blood.
