The clouds slowly drifted apart in the dark sky. The only sound in the night were soft footsteps and small whispers.
“John can we just go back please. I’m scared. Am I the only one that thinks this is a bad idea?”
“Bella its okay, just stick with us and don’t worry”.
As they carried on up the big mountain they were all getting tired. All Bella could think of was, what if there was truth behind the stories. As they reached a flat part they saw a cave where they decided to stay the rest of the night before carrying on. They all settled in but made sure all four of them were kept close together.
Bella was woken up by a small ‘bang’ followed by leaves rustling. Bella silently cussed to herself for being such a light sleeper. She didn’t think much of it as she slowly made her way out of the cave, thinking it was just her brother or one of her friends. It was still dark so she knew she wasn’t asleep long. Suddenly there was more rustles of leaves. She looked around trying to find the source of the sound when her sight was on a big rock on the side. As she slowly started walking backwards towards the cave to get help she missed her footing and slipped on some ice. She started falling but it was all happening too fast.
“Help!!” she screamed trying to get someone’s attention. Suddenly a hand reached out and caught her wrist.
“Keep hold and try to reach for that branch that’s right next to you,” said a voice out of nowhere. Bella grabbed onto the branch and tried to keep herself steady. As she looked towards the voice, she almost let go. She froze partly from being scared and relieved at the same time. By the time she remembered where she was the boy was trying to pull her up.
“Alright now pass your other hand to me. Don’t worry I’ve got you.” As she was doing this she felt herself drop, she let out a scream.
“Keep trying after I have you I will be able to pull you up fully.”
Eventually she was being pulled up and back on the flat land. Bella just laid there trying to calm her breathing.
“What happened? Are you alright? How are you?” Bella’s brother Danny shouted, running towards her.
Danny was very protective of his little sister even if there was a two year age difference.
“Bella, you ok?” he asked calmly when he was beside her, kneeling down. He suddenly forgot about the mystery boy.
“Where did he go? I didn’t thank him,” Bella whispered as she looked over Danny’s shoulder. But he just looked at her.
“Are you ok? There’s no one awake except us. I came out because you were screaming and then saw you on the ground. That’s it.”
But Bella wasn’t listening she was staring and trying to understand what just happened. Bella just kept looking around the area trying to find something that might say where the boy went. But the only thing left was footprints in the snow going around the other side of the cave. Bella was left there with lots of questions but no one to answer them.
