Deaf and Mateless Fae TBD TITLE

Prolouge

Nothing. Words escaped me. 

Thats all there is. The only thing I know. Born in this world unable to do something as simple as hear. Not easy nor good in this world, especially as a part of the Fae species. Unable to be hidden, with all super-senses you'd just know upon meeting whether someone was deaf, blind, hurt, sick or disabled in any way, they just know. Unless their part of the royal familys' highly trained personnel.  I've no clue who I am. Even at 18, my parents didn't want me, that or they're dead.  I was quite popular young. " Did you hear? Someone left a youngling on the servants steps! A deaf one at that." Thats all the castle talked about for months.  A household servant took me in, raised me. Now I live in the castle never farther than a foot outside of it. 

             I've become an expert at reading lips and feeling the vibrations in the air to know what others are saying. A young servant in training once told me she pities my soulmate.  Saying that they wouldn't want a deaf soulmate and it doesn't help that no one knows what type of Fae I am. Something that is found out on our 13th birthdays so we can be off to train. I never 'presented' as they call it. Being a 'lowly servant' they swept it under the rug and I continued as normal.

         Due to my disability I was never aloud on the ' top levels ' where people roam the castle, servants, handmaidens, business men and women, commoners, ROYALTY. I stayed in the kitchens or servants passages to clean the rooms when no one was occupying them.  I was not looked down upon by any means growing up and living here helped me a lot. Though, I was never allowed to clean the royals rooms though.  Never seen any of the royals except my best friend Rae-lynn, who visits near daily, but have heard alot about the Royal Twins next in line for the throne, Prince Alec and Princess Rae-lynn who are 18 along with their younger siblings. Triplets- Princes Reese and Damon and Princess Cassie all 15.  And of course the King and Queen still in their prime at 37 and 36 respectively.  The had the twins just under a year after finding out their mates which isn't uncommon at all.  Rae-Lynn or Rae as I call her has always said how even though I'm an unidentified race she thinks I'm powerful and meant to be with her twin.  I wouldn't know as I've never meet or seen him but if he was my mate I think I would've known.  Most find their mates as early as 14and in most royalty and powerful families no later that 19.

           But that all changes when the King and Queen introduce a new law.  Every beginning of Winter there be a ball.  A ball that all attend, no matter their species or rank. Anyone can attend but is mandatory for all mateless Fae.  I didn't want to attend but I had to and I couldn't escape it seeing as I lived where the ball takes place.
