A few weeks later, my sister came home asking about the Cullen's.

“They've never done anything bad to us,” I said. “But, they have some ancient rivalry with the Quileute people.”

“So, you, by default, didn't give them a chance,” she said, snapping at me like I'd done something wrong. I rolled my eyes and went back to watching Law and Order: SVU. I decided a while ago that it's easier to just let her believe what she wants since everyone else knows the truth.

“Bells you know that isn't true,” Dad said. “Besides, Dr. Cullen and his wife are lovely people who adopted those teenagers, and aren't letting them act like most the hellraisers in this town.”

“Good,” she said before heading upstairs to call Renee. Bella may have moved home, but, for some reason I can’t figure out, she seems more distant now than ever.

The next day, I was sitting on the hood of my car waiting for the lot to clear out some. Bella was standing by her truck, getting ready to get in, and staring at the Cullen kids. Tyler lost control of his van and almost hit Bella. Everyone was freaking out and four different people called 911.

I quickly dialed Dad's cell number. He answered, and I immediately started talking a million miles a minute.

“Hey, she seems okay, but Bella was just almost hit by a car. It was an accident, but Tyler lost control of his van. Don't worry. She's okay,” I said.

“Thank you for calling me,” he said. “Why don't you head down to Billy's? I'll call you when she's discharged from the hospital.”

“Sounds good,” I said. I hung up the phone with Dad and called Jake.

“What's up beautiful?” He asked.

“Bella was in a very minor car accident. She still had to go to the ER though, so Dad said I should head down to your place and hang out,” I said.

“You're always welcome here, babe,” he said.

“I'll be there in 20,” I said. I got into my car and pulled out of the lot and drove down to the reservation.

“Jakey, I need to check on Dad,” I whined, trying desperately to get out of Jake's grasp. Jake had pulled me down on the couch and was forcing me to cuddle with him for some reason or another.

Four hours ago, he had put in a movie, and then two hours ago traded it out for the sequel, all while not allowing me to even look at my phone.

“Charlie will call when they're home,” he said, and, almost as if on cue, the house phone started to ring. Billy picked it up on the line in his study, a small room that contained written versions of all tribal laws and histories.

“Allie, your father is home,” Billy yelled for me.

“Thank you, Billy,” I said, standing up and sticking my tongue out at Jake.

“See ya soon,” Jake said, waving to me as he continued to lay on the couch.

“Bye, Jake,” I yelled in return.

When I got home, Bella had already headed to bed, and Dad seemed more stressed out then ever.

"Maybe you should get some sleep. I'll lock up," I said.

"I don't have to worry about you like I do her," he muttered. I didn't respond because I wasn't entirely sure if I'd heard him correctly.

"Goodnight Dad. I love you," I said as I heard him heading upstairs.

"Night A. Love you too," he said. I finished locking up before heading upstairs to shower and get some sleep. I wasn't even tired though, so my mind raced with thoughts of Jake. I tried to push him out of my head, but I couldn't think about the past without him being in a memory. The future was out of the question too, because my mind just longed to include him in ever aspect of my future.
