Clipped wings

So my mom and I - mostly my mom - were cleaning the chest of drawers and found this. I wrote this almost 4 years ago, so this time, please don't judge because I KNOW it sucks. I'm just putting this here for posterity.

If we could fly,
Soar through the sky,
Let the wind scar our face,
And make the fall leaves dance with grace,

But alas!
How shall we fly?
When everyone tells us
It's a dream too far to come by.

Our wings are clipped
But they will grow back
If there's hope in our dreams
We will soon glide over the land.

Dreamers are suppressed
Their colours, dulled
By a visionless society
Full of wars and blood.

When our colours return
And our dreams take flight
We'll change this world
Of hopelessness and fright.

Mellifluous notes by the lark were once heard,
So long ago,
When will they return?
