Iris chucked her bag onto the deep blue couch in her living room. "Mom! Dad! I'm home!" She yelled to her parents.
"In here Iris." Her mother yelled back to her from the kitchen. Iris followed her mothers soft voice into the room.
"Hey mom." the 16 year old said to her caring mother. "where's dad?" she questioned.
"Oh, he took extra hours for an ill friend of his. bless his sweet heart. " the woman said, placing her hands on her chest.
"Oh cool. " Iris said, taking out her phone. she tapped her fingers against the smooth glass. thinking about what she needed to tell her mother.
"Hey mom?" she quietly asked for her mothers attention. her mother turned to her,
"Yes Iris?"
Iris nervously began ,"Well you know how I've been playing the violin for a while now?" Her mothers eyes seemed to sparkle. the green hues twinkling.
"Yes. what about it? are you thinking of joining another orchestra?" her mother asked. looking back at the dishes she was washing.
"Not exactly mom. I was thinking that maybe I could......." her voice seemed to trail off.
"Maybe you could what?"
"Quit.." Iris mumbled the word. it was a small word, but it had so much meaning to the both of them.
"Iris, you need to speak up. " her mother said, a little anger dripping from her voice.
"Quit...." Iris spoke a little louder.
"A little louder."
"Quit. mom, I would like to quit. I get made fun of. and no one would ever date a violin player." Iris practically yelled.
"Iris! I can't believe what I'm hearing!" her mother yelled, dropping a plate back into the soapy water and turning to her daughter. "we are working to get you into a good collage because of your violin playing. you really want to throw all of that away just because of some romance?!" her mother spoke louder. " You are to young for boys. you need to focus on your school work AND your violin playing. and you won't have this." Iris's mother grabbed the phone from her daughters hands. "as a distraction." She said dropping Iris's phone into her pocket. "you will get this back when you get into a good collage." her mother turned back to her sink full of dishes.
Iris let out a loud groan. "why do you have to hate me?!" she yelled before running up the stairs and into her room.
She slammed the door as hard as she could. she hoped that her mother would get mad. she wanted her to throw her out onto the streets so that she could finally be freed from the curse of over achieving parents. She laid onto her bed, her face buried in her pillow.
'I don't get why my parents have to be like this. they don't care about what I want when it comes to my future. I wish I could be freed from here.' Iris thought to herself.
Iris looked out her window. the trees swayed lightly in the summer breeze. she looked down at the grass in her backyard. She noticed something, strange. it was silver and reflected sunlight when ever it hit it. she pulled up her window and sat on the ledge, looking down at the ground. it was only about 2 stories from her. she could make it.
She looked up and the sky and jumped to the ground.
Once she hit the soft grass, she stood up instantly, stumbling slightly after her jump. She slowly walked over to the object and picked it up. It looked like some sort of medical tool. She ran her finger down the sharp edge, making a small cut in her light finger tip. dark red liquid soon beaded from the slit.
She looked down at the tool once more before stuffing it into her jean pocket. she looked around for anyone that may have dropped it. She turned and headed for the woods.
"I need some air after the day I've had..... and walking wouldn't hurt." She said to herself looking down at her thin stomach, still continuing to walk.
------
As she progressed, the trees grew denser and the sky became darker.
"I should start heading back.... It's getting kind of dark." She said out load again.
Iris always loved talking to herself. it made her feel like some one was actually there for her when she needed someone to talk to. why not have it be herself.
As she turned around, she heard a few twigs snap. but she blew it off, thinking it was her own feet. she began walking. she dug her hand into her pocket and grabbed the sharp tool. she twisted the handle around inside of her pocket.
-------
As Iris approached her house she saw a figure standing behind her pool. she looked at it curiously. "what the hell?" she whispered. "why would someone be out this late?" she said, looking down at her watch.
-10:47-
"Damn. it got late really fast." she looked up, only to see that the figure she once saw, was now gone. she shrugged it off and headed for the Back door.
She was about to grab the door handle when she heard a twig snap behind her. she quickly spun around, only to be face-to-face with a strange looking man. he had a charcoal colored mane that reached to about his shoulders. it was mangled and greasy. but this was only one miner set back about this man.
His skin was white. it sort of glowed in the light coming from the porch. it looked as if it was made of some sort of leathery product. but it was also slightly coated in mud and some red liquid that Iris assumed was blood.
As she got a closer look at the man, she realized that he had icy eyes that gave of a stare the matched the color. but the odd thing is that they were ringed in black and never seemed to close.
But there was one feature about this man that anyone could notice. it stood out like a sore thumb.
His Mouth....
It had been cut into a long, uneven smile. This had to be the most horrific thing about this character.
Iris's breathing hitched once she took in all of the mans terrifying features. the mans breathing was fast and rough. as if he had just jumped off of a building and survived. he opened his mouth and his smile widened. he cocked is head slightly to the right.
"Go.
To.
Sleep." he said this small phrase in a slow, painful manner.Iris widened her pale green eyes. she reached behind her, grabbed the door handle, and twisted it.
'............Locked.........'
