Right after I turned the corner to go back to Cyan's home, I saw him. Right there, on the lane just a few metres away from me. He had been walking slowly to the park. Cyan's eyes widened. He was slightly startled when I turned up in front of him. Caught off guard, I could tell he didn't know what to say.
"Veronica explained that she's your ex-girlfriend." I broke the silence.
"Uh huh." He said. "Do you want to be my girlfriend, Annie?" He blurted suddenly.
The question took me by surprise. How many times had I fantasized about this?
But at the same time, that question reminded me of Chip's question. The question that made me come all this way to Cyan in the first place. I realised that I had something to do before I could say yes.

"Chip?"
"Oh, Annie, hi."
"Hi."
"You called."
"Yeah, I did."
"Sorry I haven't called in a while," He said. "Was swamped with work."
"No, it's okay."
"..."
"Chip?"
"Yeah?"
"I have the answer to... your... uh..."
"I thought you might."
"Uh--"
"It's okay, Annie, you don't have to say it... I already know."
"I'm so--"
"Don't say sorry to me, Annie," He said. "Don't be sorry."
So instead, I said, "Chip, you're the best." That made him laugh.
"Naw..."
"Thank you."
"Thank you, too."

There were no church bells at our wedding. Cyan and I were never into conventions. I smiled into the chest of high school crush and believed that since this had happened, then anything could. I tilted my head up slowly and found Cyan's eyes pouring into mine. We would be lost like that for many more moments to come. The moments of our future together.
Cyan pressed his lips onto mine and that's when I understood how cliches were kept for a long time. There was no helping it. Now I know why kisses were mandatory at weddings. The kiss was as much as or even more of a symbol of love than the ring. A kiss with the right person will always make sense.
From the corner of my eye I could see Veronica and Chip chatting at the table. I hoped they would keep smiles like that forever. Maybe even together.
