A bar and a- wait, what!? part 1

After about an hour or so of talking, the two young adults decided to order something to eat. For Romano, a plate of (1) Spaghetti alla Carbonara and for the lady a slice of (2) Pizza alla napoletana, both with a glass of (3)Terre  dell'Alta Val d'Agri. As soon as the waiter came back with the food and wine, the soccer star had no trouble immediately shoveling down the pasta out of sheer hunger. In turn, the young and beautiful Canada forced her eyes away as she bit into the fresh pizza. Only a few minutes later, Romano was on his second plate of pasta as he attempted to make small talk with the young woman before him, only to be distracted by his team cracking a joke or some random smart comment, causing him to laugh openly and quite loudly. So after a while of the chattering around them and Romano chatting with his few sober team mates, he invited Canada to join him at a wine bar down town ran by his cousin!

Canada herself was not used to being cordially invited anywhere since her hockey career had taken off, she always had to work or practice, so, why not take the opportunity? So on that note, Romano paid the bill for Canada’s meal and left the waitress a tip of $78.00 and made a leisurely escape with the beautiful woman and his team. Whilst most of the team was laughing and stumbling and hitting on just about every pretty girl that crossed their line of sight, Romano had been focusing on his newfound acquaintance; Canada, A.K.A Madeline Williams. It wasn’t long until the large group had gotten to the surprisingly large bar in a fairly cheerful part of town. Staring up at the sign above the door, Madeline read the name of the fancy building; (4) Un pezzo di paradiso. Where wine meets heaven.  She sat for a few seconds, admiring the beautiful paintings of tomatoes, grapes, cherries, and other wine ingredients beautifully painted onto the large canvas. Finally, as the men waited and chatted at the door, she stalked back to the group quietly and followed as they walked into the large building that, to Madeline’s surprise, had no customers! Only, a young auburn Italian boy sat on the counter, blowing bubbles and swinging his legs. Madeline stared for a minute or two, trying to process the thought of a young child, only aging from 8-12, sitting on a bar counter. It was then when she realized that only one person had no thought about it; Romano.

“Ah! Francesco, it’s been so long (5) mio cugino! How’s the family? Well, I suspect?” The grown man said to the child. Questioning the voices, the young boy looked away from the popping bubbles and to the group of adults, only to have his confused face brighten up with a delighted smile. Along with that bright smile came the amount of energy a person would expect out of a boy his age, for he jumped from the counter top a hastily ran into the soccer star’s arms, giggling like any excited 8 year-old should. Finally, one of the only sober members of the group asked about the child alone in a bar. So, seeming to finally realize that, that was the case, Romano asked Francesco about it.

“Si, Francesco, where are your mama and papa? Are you here alone or are they getting some bottles from the cellar? If they are here, ask them about any (6) abruzzo.” And just as he spoke those words, two Italians’ voices echoed from an open door leading down a flight of stairs. There was laughing and chattering completely in Italian, virtually impossible for Madeline to comprehend.
