dear you,

remember the times when life was simple?

when all the gossip was just about a peck on the cheek. when saying the word 'stupid' was considered a sin. when blades were used only when dad shaved. when we vowed to never drink, or sniff any kind of powder through our nose. when we got scolded simply for not greeting the adults. when a silly grade of  'B+' was the most of our worries.

when we promised not to grow up.

what happened?

when did a peck on a cheek turn into rape? when did 'stupid' turn into 'kill yourself'? when did dad's blade turn into a weapon for self harm? when did a vow to never drink or sniff powder break? when did a scolding for not greeting adults turn into disappointing parents? when did a 'B+' become the least of our worries?

and when did we decide it would be okay for us to destroy someone mentally and emotionally, to the point where they decide they need to end their life? and when did we decide we would support and love the efforts of the bully? when did we decide that it would be totally acceptable to go around labeling people, to call them a whore, a slut, a no one, fat, skinny? when did we?

when we grew up.

so, what went wrong?
why did we turn out the way we did?

these questions haunt me every night.
and i know, they always will.

even if i am long gone.
