Liam Gallagher and I had been best mates since the first day of primary. Looking back, I don't even remember why we became friends in the first place. For as long as I can remember, it's been Liam and I.

We were two peas in a pod, inseparable from day one. We'd grown up alongside each other and been there to support each other no matter what. From Liam's first fight, to my mom's death, we went through it all together. He became as big a part of my family as I was of his. He was the youngest of three and they lived with their single mum, Peggy.

Which is how Noel comes into the picture.

Noel Gallagher had been the object of my affection and silent pining since the third grade. He was Liam's older brother, by an entire five years, and he was always looking out for the two of us. I can still remember the exact moment my crush began.

It was ages ago.

Liam and I kicked a ball round during recess, playing with a group of other kids in our year. He was goofing around and sent the ball flying through the field, hitting a boy in the year above us. Everyone scattered as the group of older boys - with a terrifying reputation - sauntered over. I stayed beside Liam, holding his hand nervously. We were always there for each other, even though I was terrified.

"Ya think it's fucking funny to kick the ball at us?" The boy crossed his arms and leant forwards.

"Nah," Liam said, avoiding eye contact.

"So, why'd ya do it?" The older boy pulled out a pocketknife and flipped the blade out. They were a group of lads known for violent spats and I thought I was about to faint.

"Kevin, walk away," Noel said, jogging over from the side of the field the older kids hung out on. Our very own guardian angel. The lads rushed off, scared of the older boy. Noel punched Liam gently in the shoulder, "Don't you be causing trouble."

"It was an accident," Liam said.

"Alright," Noel rolled his eyes. I'd never noticed how blue they were before. "Hey, you alright, kiddo?" He asked, squatting so he was level with me. I nodded, still scared. I felt better when he looked in my eyes.

"Don't tell mum," Liam begged his brother.

"I won't," Noel rolled his eyes. "If they try to hassle you again, let me know. And stay out of trouble," he laughed, getting up and heading back to stand with his mates.

I had a warm feeling in my stomach as I watched Noel walk away. I felt the same way every time I saw him after that.
