I paced back and forth in Heather's room, waiting for her to get back. Apollo had taken Kayla flying to give me some time alone with Heather. I was worried she should have gotten back an hour ago and yet, nothing. Not even a message on the answering machine, I was about to leave when the phone rang. I couldn't answer, so I waited patiently until the caller began to leave a message "ms.Blessod, ms. Sonna this is the class coordinator. I've been made aware that you missed several of your classes today. You'll need to make up for these classes to get full credits for the term, so please come see me tomorrow during lunch break." beep. I went out to the balcony and took off, I didn't know where I was going or why. I just knew that Heather had made it clear she was gonna go to all her classes today, so something must have gone wrong. The only thing that came to mind was Sora and his human, I wasn't sure what else to call it cause Sora hadn't actually helped any kids in the past 20 something years according to Apollo. I flew into Arthurs classroom to see if I could pick up a trace of Sora's smell, (when pegasus don't have a child to help along with losing their shimmer they also start to emit a smell-this smell is usually similar to that of someone who hasn't showered in years.) it was there, but it was faint for some reason. I started following it slowly making sure not to lose it, but it just seemed to get less and less pungent. I sighed knowing he'd somehow found a way to mask the smell under the assumption I would follow it. I landed on the empire state building trying to see if anything stood out and shook my head as I flew towards Apollo.
When I caught up to Apollo watching Kayla in the butterfly garden and explained what had happened he was just as nervous as me. He had looked down at Kayla "I can't leave her unprotected, I'm sorry Misty but I don't know what you want me to do."
"Please Apollo, I can't wait until the moon comes out it might be too late by then." I pleaded with him. He looked down at Kayla again "say I do it and then this Arthur comes for Kayla, then what. I'd be too weak to protect her and then we'd both be in a constant circle of exhausting each other as both of our humans got abducted over and over again." he said as we started to glide down slowly towards Kayla.
"I see your point, but Heather might be my last chance. If I lose her I'll have to go back to sleep, probably forever this time," I said looking Apollo in the eye. He looked away as Kayla climbed on his back, he spread his golden wings and took off. I screamed before he was too far away "the moon is dying!" I screamed it as tears started to flow and I shuddered in pain. It was if admitting those words had unleashed all the pain id been ignoring came back all at once. Apollo flew back down to me "is Heather really in trouble?" I heard Kayla ask and I looked up at her through teary eyes
"yes," I said. Kayla narrowed her eyes "Apollo, whatever it takes you to help Misty find her." she said and Apollo started to speak, but Kayla stopped him "whatever it takes, do you understand?" she asked and he nodded.
5 minutes late we stood on top of the empire state building and Apollo was gathering his strength while Kayla sat close by, I'd promised to watch her while he focused and I walked flew so that my head was level with hers "your very brave Kayla, and I know Heather would appreciate this." I said and she nodded without looking at me. Apollo cleared his throat "I'm ready," he said and I nodded as he flew to the very top if the building. The sun started to catch his copper mane and the tips of his golden wings shone like stop lights as he spread his wings fully out in mid-flight and I shielded Kayla from the blinding light coming off his body. When the immense heat stopped I looked up to see Apollo flying/falling towards the roof of the nearest building and I took Kayla over to him. She dismounted and ran to him as soon as we landed "I'm fine," he said before she could ask as he lay there. I was afraid to ask, but luckily he answered for me "she's at the observatory".
