I was woke up on a Monday morning with the wonderful voice of Josh Franceschi from You Me At Six singing 'Liquid Confidence'. I searched around for my phone on my bed as the song continued to play. Once I finally found it, I nearly wet myself with joy at who it was calling.
"Harriet?!" I nearly screamed down the phone. "Jeez, you're loud! But yeah. It's me! Howdy! How are things? Gosh, I haven't spoken to you in ages!"
"I'm great! How's collage? Any cute Aussies?" I could almost see her cheeks heat up through the phone at my comment, "you don't sound great, what's up?" I sighed, knowing I'd have to tell her eventually. Although I was hoping it'd be later rather then sooner.
"Ok, when I tell you, you have to promise not to murder me or anything like that. Just react calm, so be anyone other than yourself basically. I'm pregnant." That's it. It's finally out, I've told someone. "W-what did your parents say?"
"I haven't told them yet. I only found out yesterday..." Great. I have to tell my parents at some point.
"Oh, okay. Do you want to meet up? I'm like, round the corner to your house right now. Starbucks at 1?"
"It's a plan, see you later bye!"
"Bye!!"
I hung up to see that it was already 11:45. I slept in late... Gosh I've missed Harriet! I haven't seen her since Christmas as she moved to Australia for collage. But my thoughts were cut off by the sudden urge to puke my guts up.
An hour later, I was ready. Wearing my Aztec print crop top, denim high waisted shorts and white converse, I grabbed a banana and started walking towards Starbucks.
"Ugg, why did I even get this? I don't even like bananas!" I complained to myself as I entered the shop. A little belle chimed above me and all eyes turned to me, but one pair in particular caught my eye. Harriet's.
"HARRIET!" I screamed once I arrived at the table she chose, conveniently right next to the toilets, such a thoughtful friend!
"ADDISON!" she screamed back equally as loud as a barrister came over and gave us the 'I-dont-have-a-clue-what-you're-doing-but-you're-not-five-so-stop-or-get-out' look. Yes, that's a thing.
After about 10 minutes of arguing over who was going to pay, in the end Harriet won, we then had to decide on a drink. For me, this doesn't even need thinking about- caramel iced frapacino (a/n I apologise for bad spelling) but Harriet in the other hand, takes decades.
"Can I have a caramel iced frapacino and strawberries and cream one too please?" In the end, she went with the usual.
"So girly, spill the beans!"
"The gossips staring quick today..." I mumbled, finishing my drink,"after I broke up with Alex, I decided maybe I should go out, let loose and do something. Obviously I didn't have this in mind though, but I went to a party Ashley invited me to, but because I didn't decide until that night that I was going, I didn't arrange to meet any body there. Do you remember my next door neighbour, Luke Hemmings?" she nodded, eyeing me closely, "well, he started talking to me, one thing led to another and here we are now."
I look over at Harriet to see her jaw almost dropped to the ground. "So Luke Hemmings is the father?" she questioned. I wasn't sure if it was shock or she actually didn't know. She could be quite blonde sometimes.
Now comes the part of the conversation where she's probably going to ask me when I'm going to tell him and I'm going to get all stressed out. Yay.
"You need to tell him." She said simply, as if it was the most obvious thing in the word. Which it was.
