Lock's Pov

My bed whimpered as I tried to sneak back into the dorm. My bed was right below the window, I put it there for this very reason. A sigh leaves my lips, safe tonight. Coming back from the bar was always a journey, the way was littered with cops and gangs. Welcome to my part of New York. I lived in a hell hole. Miss. Hillion's home for orphans, and rats too apparently. Then, I hear a voice from one of the bunks.

"You're one lucky bastard, Lock...", a small chuckle follows. The lump of flesh that the voice came from got up. Another sigh leaves my lips. "I need a hug," the voice whispers out.

"Come here then Mika", I whisper back.

Mika was a young girl, barely 9. Her long hair up in a ponytail, with the most piercing blue eyes. My bed protested more as Mika sat down with me, her body leaning into mine. Her voice broke the thick silence, "Why are you back so late?" My days were always the same, wake up get some food for breakfast. Then do my chores and head out, coming back home around 3AM.

"Miss. Hillion's being a bitch." I answer, growling. She knew why I left, to find comfort. Mostly in a bottle. That was the only way I knew how to comfort myself, and if I didn't do that, I'd be lying in an alleyway, dead. My ears pick up the sound of crying coming from Mika. "What happened Mika, are you okay?" My voice made her head lower.

"Miss called you a girl, I told her "Miss, Lock's a they, not a girl." She beat me for that." her voice was almost silent. My rage blinded me, no one can do that to such an amazing girl. My feet moved by themselves, as I reached the door I could hear that bitch snoring. Then I ripped the door open. The hag fell off the couch, serves her right.

"WHO THE FUCK DID THAT?!" The beast yelled, causing the rest of the kids to wake up. Her face whipped around to see who had disrupted her sleep. The girls behind me cowered as the hag walked forward. Her face was right in front of me. Her hand pulled back to punch me, but her fist was stopped, by a ribbon of red light. The light was coming from, me? Now I had the upper hand and I wasn't letting go of it. The light pushed her to the ground and as soon as she was lying there, I punched her. Right in that ugly face, she has. The crunch of her nose breaking filled the air. Man was it nice. The room was filled with gasps as I got off her.

"Why did you do that, Lock?" A voice called.

"Payback." was all I said.

"Leave... NOW!" a new voice spat.

"Fine then!" I spat back. I lumbered back into the dorm to pack my stuff. This was the last time they were gonna throw me around, this time I'm leaving for good. No going to a bar and coming back. My hands pushed all my stuff in my backpack. My feet stomped to the door. I looked back at the kids. Slinging the bag over my back as I swing the door to the home open for the last time.

"Goodbye, Lock." Came a small voice

"Bye Mika..." My voice almost as small as hers.

I knew that was gonna be the last time I saw her. With that thought, I left the building. the sun was gonna come up soon. God, this was one hell of a morning.
