Amelia

Today was my date with Colton. After school, I went home and got ready. I didn't know what to wear, so I wore a cute top and skirt. I pinned the sides of my hair up in a barrette.

My mom knocked on the door. "Come in!" I said.

She opened it and walked in. "Oh, Amelia, you look lovely," Mom complimented me.

"You don't think it's too much, do you?" I looked at her, a bit concerned.

"Honey, I think it's perfect," she reassured me.

I gave her a soft smile. We heard the doorbell and walked out of my room. Both of us came downstairs, and Dad answered it to Colton standing there, oh god.

I started fidgeting with my fingers.

"Good evening, Mr. Langston, I'm here to escort Amelia on a date," Colton said politely. My mouth opened slightly.

Mom walked over to the door. "What's your name?"

"Colton Hardwick, ma'am," he responded.

"Come on in," she waved him in. "I'm Natalie, and this is Luke," she introduced her and dad.

"It's nice to meet you both," he said, holding out his hand. They shook it. That was bizarre.

"Do you go to school with Amelia," Dad asked him.

"Yes, sir, I'm a senior," he replied.

"So, what are your plans for tonight?" Dad questioned him.

"Dinner and a movie," he said, being friendly.

"Well, just make sure you have her back at a decent hour," Dad told him as he nodded.

I walked towards him, "Ready?" He asked me.

"Yeah," I said as I left first, and he followed me. Dad closed the door, and we walked to his car. He walked over, opened my door, and I got inside. H closed the door. He walked to the driver's side and got into the car. He pulled out of the driveway and drove us to a restaurant.

The car ride was silent. I didn't know what to say.

He pulled into a parking lot and parked the car, then he got out and opened my car door. I got out, and he closed it. We walked into the restaurant.

The hostess sat us at a table. A few minutes later, a waitress brought menus to us. As I looked at it, I glanced at him. He was looking at his list. "No need to stare," he remarked.

"I'm not staring," I said casually.

"Uh, huh," he replied, still looking at his menu.

I set my menu down. "I'm just curious if you are just polite to adults or if it's all an act?"

He sat his menu down. "I didn't realize there was an issue with being polite, or is that issue?"

I looked at him as he looked back at me.

"You're a jerk," I said to him.

"Why because I'm not putting on an act? I hate to break it to you, but me being polite to your parents doesn't make me a jerk. It means I have manners," he retorted.

"Well, you are jerky to me," I spat.

"In what way?" He asked me.

"You're not friendly, you're rude, and you act like I'm an inconvenience. Sorry if 'begging' you for a date is so bad. You could have said no," I said emphatically.

"Are you done?" He asked with irritation.

"Yes," I huffed as I crossed my arms.

"Now that you had your say, I will have mine. You're acting like a spoiled brat right now. You're throwing a tantrum because I'm not bowing down to you. Newsflash sweetheart, the only guys that do that, are looking to get into your pants," he shot back, taking me by surprise.

I stared at him.

"Truth hurts, doesn't it?" Colton asked me.

Colton

I sat there as Amelia went silent. She wasn't getting it. She thought that this would be like any date. I didn't want that. I wanted her to understand that I wasn't just any guy.

I didn't want her to think I was like every guy at our school. I watched how they were with her, how she had to use excuses to be gentle when she turned them down. I also knew about the bet that was going around about her.

I might have a reputation, but it helps when people talk. They don't think you're listening, but you hear more than they realize. There was a bet on who could sleep with her, and it was wrong.

I ran my hand through my hair in frustration. "Look, I'm sorry. People have this perception about me, and sometimes I let my frustration get the best of me."

"Then why don't you explain it to me," she said.

"I know what people think about me. It's no secret, but contrary to popular belief, I'm not what everyone thinks I am," I explained.

"Then why don't you say something?" She looked at me, confused.

"Because then they leave me alone. I have enough to deal with than someone is a fake friend." It was the truth. There were things people didn't know, and I didn't want them to know.

"I'm sorry too. It's just that I've never been on a date before. It's all new to me," Amelia said innocently.

"Yeah, I got that," I said as a smile curled upon my lips. Amelia let out a soft giggle. She had a nice laugh.

"Can we start over?" She asked.

"That would be nice," I agreed, and we did. Things went better after that. Amelia was a sweet girl. I hated to see how people treated her. She didn't deserve it.

After dinner, we saw a movie. I kept it simple and let Amelia take the lead. I had to admit I was having fun. She was funny and smart.

Once the movie was over, I took her home and walked her to the door. I told her goodnight and got back into my car. Something told me to monitor her at school. I didn't like Aria and Lily.
