It was just your average day within the three-walled city, walking through the streets that were hidden by the towering Wall Sina. Being in the Survey Corps, breaks or time off weren't really much of a thing, but seeing as the next expedition wasn't for a long time, and since it had been a while since everyone had been allowed to see their friends and family, Erwin decided to give us three days to cool our stressful lives and visit with close people.
I was super happy at first to be finally allowed to venture out and around for once without sneaking, but listening to all of the fellow cadets go back to visit their families kind of put me off in a weird mood.
"Going to see your parents Connie?" asked Jean.
"Yep, it's been a long time since I've seen them, and my letters take such a long time to deliver to them." Connie explained. "What about you Sasha?"
"Of course!!" she exclaimed. "I've missed my village so darn much, I can't wait!"
After years of living with the guilt of your mother dying and not having a true father, hearing the excitement of other people finally getting to see their families again made me feel somewhat jealous, mad, and sad all at the same time.
The sun was slowly setting over the stone walls, leaving everything in an orange haze. 'I'd better go find a place to stay before it becomes night' I thought as I walked through crowds passing through fruit market vendor stands. 'It wouldn't be a good idea to be wandering the streets at night, even if I'm in the rich capital.'
Just before I was about to go search for an inn to stay in, I couldn't help but be drawn to the gorgeous glow in the sky. Then a thought crept into my head. 'I'll only go for a little while, not long.' I thought as I snuck into a hidden alley I had found out about during a squad mission in town.
Just as I remembered, the stairs up to the top of Wall Sina were in plain sight. With a devious smirk, I climbed up the long flight of stairs to the tallest landmark in the kingdom. When I finally reached the top, the warmth of the sun's final rays made me smile as I closed my eyes and pictured a world that could always be this calm and beautiful. But when I opened my eyes, I noticed that I was not alone.
Only a few feet away from me was another lonely looking stranger. When he turned, my eyes grew wide, finding out that it was none other than Levi Ackerman, the captain of the Survey Corps and my squad leader. His steel-grey eyes also widened a little, seeming a bit surprised to see one of his cadets up on the top of Wall Sina.
"I didn't expect to see you up here, Captain." I said, trying to lighten the awkward silence as we shared an equally awkward glance.
"Neither did I expect to see you, (L/N)" he said in his normal monotonous voice.
The deafening silence took over once more as the both of us slowly turned our heads towards the blazing sun, slowly descending over the far away mountains. "It's beautiful." Captain Levi blurted. "I wish it could last forever."
"I agree." I answered.
"I thought all you cadets were out visiting family and friends." he turned to face you.
"I... don't have family anymore, and as friends are concerned, I'm pretty sure they don't even miss me being gone." I answered, still looking out over the walls.
Silence again. "That's something we share in common, I guess." Captain Levi said, breaking the silence once again. "I never really had any type of real family, my mother died when I was a young child, and I've never really had any REAL friends... well, ones that are still alive."
I turned to face him again, sincerity coating my face. "I... I didn't know, I'm so sorry..."
"Don't be, at this point, I've come to terms that this is the norm for who knows how much longer." his strong gaze felt like it was piercing through my eyes.
"I guess you may be right..." I trailed off. "But that's the whole reason why I joined the Survey Corps. I wanna save the future of humanity from suffering like we all have suffered."
Something in Captain Levi's eyes changed. It was as if his eyes could smirk. "If I had a coin for every time some cadet said the same exact thing as you, I'd be rich." he said in a sarcastic tone. "But I understand what you mean, I think it's what most people want."
The sun had disappeared behind the hills, being replaced by a dim white light of the moon. I jolted up, suddenly remembering that I had to find a place to stay before the light in the sky had completely faded away. "Sorry Captain, I have to go find some inn to stay in before criminals start walking the streets." I jokingly said.
"You don't have a place to stay yet?" He asked in surprise.
I shook my head, allowing him to roll his eyes. "Idiot..." he mumbled. "Well, I'm not gonna let you wander the streets at this hour, who knows what stuff happens on the streets at night. I have a room at an inn, you can come stay the night there."
My eyes widened, heat creeping into my cheeks. 'Is he being serious?!'
"Don't act like I'm trying to fuck you or something, I'm trying to help you." he said plainly. "Or, if you really want, you can try and find your way around in the dark by yourself."
"No... no, I wasn't thinking anything like that!" I stuttered. 'Totally didn't at all' I thought.
"Then come on, I'm getting tired, and as much as I want to stay on this wall that's high away from humanity, it's time to face the facts and go sleep." Captain Levi said as he started walking to the stairs leading back down to the kingdom. "You coming or not?"
"Yes!" I said a little too enthusiastically.
I swear to God I saw the captain crack a small smirk on his lips, as he put his hand on my back and led me down to civilization once more.
Sorry, this was kinda short and silly, but cute fluff is my thing!
