*Sam's POV*
The heated humidity around me boiled just as my mind did the same. There were red swirls in my vision as I drove over the speed limit. My fingers beat against the steering wheel and I felt my pupils change as the sky got dark, and monstrous thunder cracked.
I had seen Adeline last night pick up her phone while she was having whatever attack that was. I saw her eyes change and her body language become something she's not. She had thrashed in my arms after I held her, so she could reach her phone. She had begged me to take the panic away, to take away whatever dizziness had haunted her.
I had never seen her like that, so unsure and pained; I was willing to do anything for it to stop... so I let her pick up her phone in her wild confusion. I didn't know she had drugs, I didn't know what was going on.
I have known Adeline my whole life, but not in the way I was recently discovering. I've never known her in the romantic sense, I've never seen her change like that night. I definitely hadn't known about drugs or her connection to Jake. Jake is some foreign creature to me, but he keeps showing up.
Just like Jenna, I suppose.
Something was indefinitely wrong with Ad, and I don't know if I want to find out the reason for this sudden change.
I swung my keys in my hand as I walked with my head down into my house. The front door creaked as usual, and everything seemed normal in my house. The house was silent except for the sound of Buddy's nails clicking on the wood floors. I threw all my stuff on the kitchen counter, but paused as I saw our living room a total mess.
"Grandpa?" I yelled up the stairs, looking around skeptically.
It looked like our closets had been torn apart, our miscellaneous objects thrown all over the place.
I jumped when I heard my grandpa cough behind me. I spun around, feeling my face heat up with panic.
"What happened in here?"
"We were trying to find your suitcases." He grumbled and walked past me to start gathering up the mess.
I had been putting it off only because of Adeline. I had pushed Idol to the smallest crevice of my mind so I could just focus on her. Although I had exploded on her only minutes before, wasn't it just a cry for help? She still needs me, I think.
"I don't need to pack yet, though." I sighed pushing the stuff onto the floor so i could sit in a chair.
"You're leaving in a week and half, Samuel Joseph." He mumbled as he bent over to pick up my old soccer cleats(that phase lasted about 2 weeks before I quit). "Your room is a total mess, and none of your clothes are clean... So that's your next job. Clean yourself up before dinner, also."
"But I can fly home after Hollywood week!" I spit, panicked about Adeline. "We just need to film Hollywood week, and after that I can come home for a bit, right? I don't want to be away from... my friends. Plus, we don't know if I'll make it past Hollywood!"
"Don't talk like that, you'll make it through, bud." My grandpa sent me a smile from across the room. "Also I don't think it's a good idea to pay all that money for you to come home that week. I'd rather give you that money to get some new strings on that guitar of yours."
