Riley's POV
Preview (READ)
We were on the dance floor, the synchronized beating of our hearts drowning the music out. Everything felt perfect. The way his hands rested on my waist as we lulled to the song was everything.
They way his icy blue eyes were looking into my boring hazel ones, making me feel as if i was the most important thing in the
His eyes were filled with passion and love, and I'm 100% sure mine were too. A feeling if you told me i was going to feel about Marcus a couple months ago I would have laughed and called you the stupidest and most ignorant person to have stepped on this world. We started leaning towards each other not once breaking eye contact. Our lips were a mere centimeter away from each others when we got interrupted by the music coming to a halt and some one clearing their throat into a microphone gaining every ones attention.
I look up and found Cheryl. "As you guys know Riley Williams joined our school about 4 months ago," she began, my eyes widening once I heard my name. That can not be good. Nothing cherly has ever done when it came to me has been good.
"We all know her as the girl that 'changed' Marcus's playerish ways, the girl who 'tamed' the bad boy." she adds adding quotations around the word tamed.
By now the gym was filled with whispers wondering what could be so important it couldn't wait till after prom. Some girls were looking back where me and him were standing, sending me envious looks.
I looked up at him. "What do you think she's doing?" I asked. I focused my attention back towards Cheryl when I didn't get a reply just a tight squeeze on my waist.
"Turns out I was right all along." she laughed while pushing a button on a tiny remote.
The murmurs were hushed when an audio started playing. "You and Riley seem to be getting pretty close" said a voice I instantly recognize as Jace's .
I looked up to Marcus and saw that his jaw is clenched shut while he sends a menacing glare towards Cheryl who looked as if she had just won the lottery. "Yea I'm starting to wonder why I even betted against you" Liam laughed.
"We still have a couple weeks left, who says by then that he will have Riley in bed?" Jace questioned. I ripped Marcus's arms from around me, putting some distance between us, my heart beat feeling like a hammer pounding repeatedly against my rib cage. I glanced up at him my eyes pooling with tears, he didn't look at me instead he was still giving Cheryl a murderous look.
"He looks like he's really enjoying her company maybe we'll finally win a bet against him" Jace continued. "Shut up Jace, we all know its fake I'm just trying to win the mula, I mean its pretty easy to fake, she's so gullible."
I heard people gasping from surprise as they turned around and looked at him and I for the umpteenth time this dance.
Cheryl cut the tape off, knowing we all heard enough. "Now you guys know the truth. I knew nobody could steal my baby from me!" she snickered into the microphone.
Tears were flowing heavily from my eyes as I thought about all the special moments I thought I had with him. Our dates and late night cuddles we had when I couldn't sleep because of my nightmares.
When I told him about mom and Jacob, about Charlotte. I remembered him promising to protect me. When he comforted me about aunt Cassidy's death. And welcomed me into his home.
Was that all fake? I felt like someone was ripping my heart out of my chest. The walls seem to be closing in around me. Why can't I just live a normal life? Why can't I be happy?
