Shine sighed, walking around her room, clawing at the locked door. She whimpered and gave up, the door wouldn't budge. "Shine! Pop-pop's here!" Her white-tipped ears pricked up to the sound of her father.

She barked with excitement, hopping up on the door and clawing at it once again. She stopped and placed her left ear and head on the wooden ground, hearing heavy boots stomp across the floor. She barked again at the door until it was unlocked, revealing her very wary owner. She wagged her big fluffy tail, bouncing up and licking his chin and any other parts of the face she could reach.

"Mama locked you up again, huh?" Shine whimpered once more and stopped licking, retreating back to her bed. "Don't worry, Shine. Mama and the kids will get used to you some day. I promise." His eyes were filled with sadness and age. The wrinkles on his face and forehead made it obvious.

Shine was still a puppy. She didn't know any better, but alas, her mother expected better. Her so called mother constantly hurt and abused her, thinking it would make her listen. Her father would always stop her and calm her down, saying thing like "she only a pup, dear" and "she's still learning."

Her nasty, brat kids weren't any better. They would get her in trouble.
Molly, Junior, Philip, and Johnny. Molly being the eldest and Philip being the youngest, going on at 15. Johnny was the worst, always blaming things he did on poor Shine.

Shine would spend the most time with Junior, he was the second middle child, He was the kid that found Shine when he was younger. He's 14 Years now, he reminder he of Pop-Pop. Their father, and Shine's protector.

"MICHEAL! I made up my mind, get down here." Shine whimpered, hearing mother yell. "It's okay, she's nowhere near you, dear." Father got up and stopped abruptly, making Shine tilt her head, her pointy wolf ears flop over. Father sighed and turned, kneeling down and nice more and held his arms out.

A hug! Shine loved those, especially father's. Her tail wagged and she trotted over to him, nestling her head in his neck. Her soft, brown-black fur being flattened down by the hand of her father's. "Never forget where you came from, Shine. Never forget your family and your true home." His voice was rough, yet soft. It was all strange, it didn't matter to Shine.

Father stood up and sighed again. Hearing mother yell again, this time more eager. "Stay Shine, be a good girl." Getting up and patting her smooth head, leaving the room and disappearing down the stairs.
