the crisp air brushed his face as an artist paints a canvas. he stood rocking back and forth on his feet as he watched the car pull up. opening the door he climbed in feeling the more comfortable temperature contact his skin.
exiting the car Donghyuck walked down the hall with his friends. the hallway consisted of some kids screaming with each other, some making out and a few actually being quiet. he turned the corner and walked into the class with Renjun.
the two took there seats as Donghyuck started paying attention to the window and what was happening outside. he saw a little child across the street playing in the leaves with her grandpa.
happy thoughts of his own grandpa came to mind. he remembered there days at the park. their shared car rides with off key melodies being sung. times at the movie theater. and everything in between.
but he also thought about the time he came home from school and was told his grandpa was in the hospital. he remembered how scared he felt knowing his grandpa was sick.
"it's called a brain tumor. it's a kind of cancer, but don't worry grandpa is strong," his mom told him.
2 months later he was sitting at his funeral. hardly listening to what anyone said at the service. excusing himself he went to the bathroom where he cried in the sink. he saw the reflection in the mirror and saw his grandfather in himself. he cried harder.
however the soft hands detangled his short strands of hair, snapping him out of his thoughts. "good morning Haechan," Mark whispered to the younger. "good morning mork," he smirked back in a joking manner.
both boys giggled and started paying attention to their teacher like they should have been doing.

"are you doing anything after school?" Renjun asked. Donghyuck shook his head and agreed on going to his friends house. walking to Renjun's house the boys had there arms locked listening to music in their shared earbuds.
"where's your food?" Donghyuck said closing the pantry. "dunno ask my dad who never goes grocery shopping," Renjun said throwing him a peach. "we should probably do our homework soon," Renjun said as they sat on the couch. he nodded but turned the tv on.
after eventually completing their homework the boys played on the gaming system Renjun kept. "i suck at video games man," Donghyuck said tossing the control to Renjun in anger. he chuckled and went to get snacks for the two.
ding !
"was that your phone or mine?" Renjun asked looking at Donghyuck. "oh it's mine," he said reaching in his pocket pulling out the thin, silver device. "who texted?" Renjun asked, mouth full of chips.
"it's a text from Mark."
