Lan is lying on the bed, on his front, playing video games and shaking his bent knees. A pillow is underneath him and it's so comfortable.

But what makes him so happy is not the cozy bed, it's Shen Wei, who is half sitting, half lying on Lan's back with his knees bent and nose hidden inside a book, as usual.

Lan is not an avid reader at all, not by any means. But he understands the sense of comfort books offer Wei.

And it's cute seeing Wei love books so much.

Wei can never be seen without a book. And the way his forehead furrows in concentration and his eyes never leave the book, those glasses and the way he bites his lips when trying to figure out something just makes Shen Wei the cutest thing in the whole wide world, not like he isn't cute other times. He is cuter like this.

Lan chuckles, "Are you enjoying it?"

It takes a few moments for Wei to come out of his world and respond. He only responds with a distracted 'hmm'.

Lan rolls his eyes.

He drops the video game he is holding on the bed and twists on purpose. Wei falls on top of Lan, Lan wastes no time pulls Wei closer to himself, his arm snaking around Wei's waist naturally and hugs from Wei from behind - Lan's chest and Wei's back are touching.

Lan snatches the fallen book away before Wei can reach for it and ignore Lan conveniently.

Lan gives him puppy eyes and Wei is not giving in.

Lan sighs, "Answer a few questions and you can continue reading."

Wei pouts a little but nods and smiles. Lan wants to kiss him but holds back the urge. He cannot distracted. He is on a mission. Hell, he is just curious.

Lan asks, "So, what kind of books do you like to read, Xiao Wei?"

Wei immediately answers without hesitation. "I mostly read non-technical books - Literature, Bio engineering related. I do read story books but not as much as I should. When I do read story books, it's mostly Classics and non fiction books."

Lan cocks his head. That is somehow so like Wei's personality. They say, 'Books are people's friends, they say, 'You can know a person through the books they read'... it's so true in Wei's case. So soft, gentle, comfortable, kind, friendly, mature, calm, composed... so gorgeous and kind of complicated as well, well hidden with deeper meaning, very subtle. God, Wei is rubbing off on him.

"What genres do you prefer?"

Wei hesitates a little and Lan wonders if he has asked something he isn't supposed to.

He mumbles after sometime, "Tragedies."

Lan is surprised. He doesn't know what to say.

Suddenly, he is reminded of the scene 10,000 years ago when he first met Wei. Wei was all alone, no one by his side, no friend, only followers and people who respected him or feared him, everyone kept their distance.

The moment when Lan removed Wei's mask and saw Wei's startled but hopeful expression for the first time is etched in Lan's memories.

The moment when Wei got back the mask from Lan and didn't put it on but instead watched the stars in the night sky using the holes in the mask will never be forgotten by Lan.

Those words with a heavy weight tear at Lan now, "No one has tried to get to know me, except you, Kun Lun."

How many lonely nights had Wei spent in 10,000 years? Watching the sky all alone and accepting that his life will never have a happy ending? Is that why he likes tragedies?

Lan also remembers Wei's recent words, not long ago, after Wei and Lan met after 10,000 years.

"Some tragedies are destined to be."

Lan's heart squeezes. Does Wei still think of him and Lan as a tragedy? He cannot let this go. He has to make things right. He cannot let Wei be sad again. He will never let Wei be sad again in the forthcoming years.

He has to make up for the 10,000 years as well. He will, till their death, he will. He will not die before or after Wei, they will die together. They are 'one' now, a single being. He has to let Wei know.

Lan sits up properly, crossing his legs and turns Wei to face him.

"Do you think of us as a tragedy, even now?"

Wei looks down, inhales softly and closes his eyes. "Honestly, I never thought that you and I would have a happy ending. It's not just with you. I never thought that I can be happy with anyone and it's mostly my fault because I could never accept anyone else other than you. Of course, it's not your fault, Xiao Lan."

Lan grits his teeth. "That doesn't answer my question, Xiao Wei."

Wei hesitates again and Lan's heart breaks. Hasn't he let Wei know properly?

He raises his hand to stop Wei.

"Xiao Wei, I love you. I will never leave you. We will figure things out together in the future. Together is the key word. I will never let you be sad or alone again. We won't be a tragedy. Maybe we were in the past but this reincarnation of mine is different. We never will be a tragedy. It's a promise, a deal and we will keep it together."

Wei smiles and kisses Lan lightly. "I have been working on it. I have become a bit selfish."

Lan chuckles, "Let us work on it together. And I want you to be selfish and demanding, Xiao Wei." He cradles Wei's face in his hands, gently and bops their noses and foreheads together, relishing as Wei's face turns red from happiness and embarrassment.

Lan whispers softly against Wei's lips, "Because not all tragedies are destined to be, my Xiao Wei."

Wei just entangles their fingers in a silent promise.
