Well, I wrote this in English class, and decided to put it up because my teacher couldn't understand what I was writing about heh. The prompt was 'control', and I think I went overboard. :) Do tell me if it's really hard to understand.

"Steiner! What are you doing?" Dr. Marla Knowles stormed into her partner's private laboratory,

Dr. Charles Steiner did not deign to look up from his work as he hummed a soft tune to himself. Knowles was a petty woman that was forever blind to the importance of Steiner's experiments. That was why her calibrations and experiments never worked.

"Hey! Are you even listening to me?" It seemed that Knowles had had enough of him ignoring her. She never had much patience anyway, he though to himself idly. It was no matter though; he could concentrate even with the racket she was making. He hummed louder, knowing that she was but a pesky fly in the light of his endeavour towards a new scientific breakthrough.

Slowly, he lifted his hands from the chips taped to his head. They were perfectly positioned, each one carefully placed to align with the different parts of his brain. Sync complete, beeped the computer. All he had to do now was press [Enter] and the connection would be established with everything around him too. Press the key and he would have all the control he would ever want.

Steiner reached out, but Knowles slapped his hand away from the keyboard. "Steiner!" she yelled at him. The scientist blinked up at his laboratory partner blankly.

"Excuse me, you are in my way," he told her, "and you are making an awful lot of noise. Kindly refrain from disturbing me when I am working."

Knowles threw her hands into the air. "Well, apparently we aren't allowed to 'work' anymore. The higher-ups just cut the funds for all research on neurological signals of the human brain."

"I remain unaffected by this development. My work is almost done."

"'Your work'?" she exploded on him. "Your work is done? What work?! You mean the work where you abuse animals and electrify children?"

"Oh," he said slowly, "you found out."

"Hell yes I did! They bloody sent me videos of you torturing a kid! What exactly have you been doing here? They're probably gonna arrest you for violating human rights!"

Human rights? Steiner frowned. There were no such thing as human rights or animal rights in this world. With the rise of technology, it was now an age of control, power, influence. He was simply doing what he could to survive, working to further his own control.

It was surprising that the government had taken so long to finally cut the funding. Their branch of science had hardly had any breakthroughs since the turn of the century. All that mattered now was technology. But his work would render all that void.

Steiner beckoned Knowles closer and opened a file on his computer, letting her scroll through his journals on his experiments.

Pages and pages of his thoughts and calibrations, complete with thorough documentation of his test subjects. It still pained him to see the charred bodies of the lab rats he had used, followed by the rabbits, dogs and cats he had begun to test on after the rats were no longer useful. Then came the orphan children he had experimented on, after his calibrations had finally suited humans. Their bodies had become marred with black, marks of all the burns and damage he had caused. All for control. Beautiful control over everything that surrounded him.

"What... What is this?" Knowles sounded horrified, but Steiner preferred to think of it as reluctant awe.

"It is the making of my control. My power!" he cried, feeling the euphoria that rushed through his veins at the very thought. "I don't need the funding anymore, my calibrations are complete. With the press of a key, I will control every single organism on this planet. From the ants to the humans to the very bacteria in our stomachs! Mere, simple electrical signals, synced to my brain and pulsed outwards to cover the earth. I will have all the power!" Steiner cut off his monologue, eyes wide at his own brilliance. "The future ahead is full of light and hope. It's full of me!" He burst into uncontrollable laughter.

"Steiner! What are you--" Knowles reached for him, but Steiner had already pressed [Enter]. Yes, he entered a world of billions and billions of minds and brains, all under his power, his control. The entire universe could be his now.

He turned back to his former partner, ex-Dr. Marla Knowles. "You're no doctor," he told the figure that was frozen in time, eyes wide with desperation. "I'm the only one left. The only one with all the control."

Steiner smiled and hummed his tune. "Dance for me, puppet."

The pesky fly began to waltze under the crazed gaze of the man that controlled everything
