When writing a character into a house, remember that your characters personality does not have to perfectly match the houses traits. For instance, your character could be in the house of Slytherin, and they could have the sweet, caring personality of a Hufflepuff. It might sound a bit odd, but it makes for an interesting storyline. Maybe your character will always be wondering why they were put into the house they were put into, and the climax of your story could be them discovering why they were sorted into the house they were sorted into. An example of this would be: "Jack was face to face with a death eater. He knew he would die. He simply knew it. His eyes darted back and forth, trying to find a way out, knowing that his bravery (or lack there of) would be unable to save him. But suddenly, it was like a force overtook him. He pulled out his wand and aimed it directly at the death eater. "Reducto!" He shouted, and that was that: the death eater was then only a pile of ash. And thats when Jack knew, he knew that he belonged in Gryffindor." Now, that was only a freehanded example that didn't go into full depth, but using something along those lines could easily make an incredible plot line.
