Lacey
"Travis, I really don't think we should."
Travis has his hand wrapped around mine and has started practically dragging me off of the dance floor. I mean the dance dirt I guess. How he got power out here for the DJ, I'll never know.
"I need you all to myself for a while." His voice is calm and steady, firm. But I hear the smirk in his tone as well.
"A little eager, aren't we?" I mumble back. He's got to be kidding me right now. All of these guests are here to celebrate us. They expect some interaction with the happy couple, not for us to ditch them and race off to some secluded area.
Which reminds me..."Where exactly do you think you're taking me, Mr. Black?"
Travis pauses for half of a beat, glancing back to catch my eye. "Somewhere very special, Mrs. Black."
Oh gosh. I feel the smile involuntarily creep up my lips. I love it. I love him. And we're actually married.
"Travis..."My resolve is wavering so I let him lead me where ever it is he wants to take me. His hand feels warm, strong, callused. I love how rugged he is, and how he's not afraid to be bold and show his affection. He may freak out about it occasionally, but he doesn't let that stop him.
Not long after he's whisked me away, he stops. "What...why would you bring me here, Travis? This isn't exactly a sentimental romantic spot for us." We're standing next to the trail he took me hiking on during our now infamous camping trip. Those episodes of his YouTube channel are his most watched.
Travis now has his arms around my waist, pulling me close. He's so handsome in this tux. I find myself running my fingers down the lapel of his jacket. He's usually grunged out in flannel or workout gear. I could get used to this side of him, for sure.
"Because, love," he kisses the tip of my nose, "this is where you let me have it. This is where I saw something else in you that I don't think you'd let anyone else see, except maybe Sophie. And the fact that you let that angry kitten out drove me just a little crazy."
My husband of exactly one hour leanes down and kisses me. This kiss says, I love you, you're what I've always wanted, I'm so proud that you're my wife. My hands now run up his lapel, across his shoulders and up into his hair. That's when he pulls back a little.
"Hey, now. Not the hair. I don't want another ass-kicking from Luc." Travis is smiling a little. I'm confused, but knowing Luc, there was some insane reason for whatever kicking he had to do.
It's my turn to do a little confessing. "Before I even met you, I knew you'd be trouble."
"Good trouble, or bad trouble?" Travis has one eyebrow raised. His arms are still holding me close to him.
"The best kind of trouble. It scared me, if I'm completely honest. I didn't think I was ready for the tornado you were about to bring to my life." His arms pull me even tighter. "But you know, the timing was perfect. You and I are perfect. And this is the best day of my life. I'm your wife now!"
I push away from Travis, just a bit, so I can look into his eyes. "I'm so glad you made plans with me." My voice is hushed, not from embarrassment or an attempt to keep this just between us. But the emotion I'm feeling right now is so overwhelming I can hardly form the words.
"Baby, you have no idea how happy I am that our plans became the promises we made today." Travis takes my two hands in his, just like we did during the ceremony. "Lacey, I promise to love you in all circumstances, through every hill and valley, on all the mud hikes and in every mall. The highs will keep us going, and the lows will keep us on our toes. I want to do life with you, because life without you just isn't enough."
I take my hands out of his and cup his jaw, bringing his face down just a little closer to mine. "Travis, I never knew that you would be exactly what I needed. My plans would never have been as good without you. I promise to stay by your side during every storm and rainbow. And a little mud in this life won't tear me away from the man who holds my heart." On my tippy toes, I touch my lips to Travis and tell him with my kiss exactly how I feel. When I pull away, the look on Travis' face makes my heart beat faster.
"Husband, as much as I want to jump in our car and head off to the honeymoon, there is a S'mores bar that's calling my name. And we haven't even cut the cake!"
"Okay, wife. We have an entire week of honeymoon ahead of us. Plus, you had me at s'mores." With a wink, Travis squeezes my hand and we start to walk back to the reception site. Hand in hand. Husband and wife. The next chapter in our lives is going to be the best one yet.
