On Earth, in the Southern Hemisphere, in a little country called New Zealand, there sat a cave. Inside the cave sat a human. At least, you thought it was human, until you ventured close enough to see it in the glow of the fire that flickered in front of the humanoid figure. Her skin and her hair were unnatural colours. They were teal in colour, her long hair darker than her skin. I say her, for she looked feminine, and those are her pronouns, but really she was genderless. Her nose was long and pointy, unlike any human nose. Yet her appearance was rather human, nonetheless.

As she sat there, she ran her fingers along the flat of a teal sword.

"Over 5,000 years, and I still will never be a good fighter." She muttered sadly.

The flames from the fire danced higher, casting a glowing reflection onto the humanoid's blade. She stared down at her weapon, thinking.

All of a sudden, a yellow humanoid burst into the cave. The teal humanoid looked up and turned around sharply. "Citrine?"

Citrine's left eye was hidden behind her long fringe. her hair was short, hanging down just above her shoulders. Right now, her hair was all messy, and her visible eye was wide with worry and shock. She held a strange, rounded, lime green see-through screen with data flashing and moving across it. She walked up to the other person quickly. "Turquoise! The Diamonds are on Earth!"

Turquoise's jaw dropped. "What?!?!? No no no no no. No! They can't be here! They - they must have found us!"

Citrine shook her head. "Calm down Turquoise! They're on the other side of Earth. We are safe. They can't hurt us."

"You don't know that!" Turquoise yelled.

Citrine sighed. "Yes, I do. They're busy. They're fighting someone else right now."

"Who?" Turquoise asked suspiciously. "There's no other gems on Earth!"

Citrine shrugged. "I have no idea. I can pick up there are both gems and humans. most gems are singular, but there is a fusion."

"Ok..." Turquoise blinked. "So maybe they aren't after us."

Citrine nodded. "Exactly! We're safe! You don't need to worry. They still haven't found us, even after 5,000 years."

Turquoise sighed. "I just wish they didn't want to shatter you. You're a perfectly good soldier."

Citrine looked away. "I wish."

"I might still be serving the Diamonds. I could be with the other Turquoises right now... They might still be alive... and I wonder what happened to Peridot?" Turquoise wondered aloud. She looked at Citrine, who was looking uncomfortable. "Of course, I'm happy I saved you." Turquoise added hastily. "I would never have met you! You are such a great person!"

"Mmm," Citrine said, looking at the ground. "Maybe." She turned towards the cave entrance. "I should go now."

"Citrine!" Turquoise ran to her friend's side and placed a firm hand on her shoulder. "Don't go! I'm sorry! I was just wondering what might have happened! I - I'm happy with this present. I miss the past, but not too much. Of course I wonder what might have happened - haven't you? But I couldn't have got here without you!I'd much rather be wild and free than under the Diamond's rule! I'd much rather be with you." Turquoise blushed.

Citrine looked up at Turquoise, a faint smile on her face. "Really? You mean it?"

"Really." Turquoise nodded and squeezed Citrine's shoulder.

The two friends smiled. "Hey, do you want to go watch the sunset?" Citrine asked.

"Yes please!" Turquoise nodded.

They walked outside at stared up at the sky, watching the sun set over the trees, and remembering their adventures...
