A Train Of Life

December 12, 2072

Penny sat in the middle of her room, her one hand holding the engine car of a model train she is assembling, figuring out the next piece from the many parts of the model she has scattered around her.

“Penny” Her mother called her from downstairs, “Come down here, mommy has a surprise for you”.
Penny pulled herself up with the support of her bed. She took the crutch lying on the bed and strapped it around her left arm and leaned on it. Penny is suffering a disease which has left her left leg paralysed, the paralysis spreads through her body as she grows older, and doctors said it’s incurable. She carefully made her way downstairs and walked into the living room.

Her mother was waiting for her at the end of the hall, who hugged her tightly "I missed you” she said.

“Mom it hasn’t been twenty minutes,” Penny said. “But I missed you” she let her go “There is someone you should meet” she turned around to face a mysterious figure standing in the living room. Penny didn’t notice anyone being there when she walked in.

“Hello” He said, standing as still as a statue. Penny hid behind her mother, she doesn’t get many visitors. Her mother stood aside exposing her to the figure, “Come introduce yourself to Penny” He walked towards Penny, she tried to get away but she was frozen, He knelt in front of her, face to face.

“Hello Penny, I am Android 1777” He said.

“Hello” Penny said nervously. “You don’t need to be afraid” Mother laugh as she said, “He is an Android, and he’s going to stay with us” Penny noticed his eyes, they looked like normal human eyes, but looking closer she noticed the eyes focusing on her every move like a camera.  He looked like a normal person, young and tall with an athlete body.

“Why don’t you show him your Collection,” Mother looked at her watch, “maybe he can help you out with your new model”
“Are you leaving?”
“Yeah I have work”
“But...”
“Don’t worry he won’t eat you” Penny looked back at the android nervously as mother said.

Penny walked back to her room, the Android followed her, “This is my room, It’s not very tidy” She said as she walked in.

“I can help you with that” Android went to take the parts of the model on the floor.

“No!” Penny shouted, He looked at Penny, “I was working on that..” she said quietly to him.

“I am sorry I didn’t realise” He put the piece back on the floor which he had picked up.

“It’s ok” Penny said.
He looked around the room. Penny’s room was like a library, except it had train models.

“Are you interested in Trains?” He asked.

“I like them, I like to collect them” She said as she sat down on the floor and started figuring out the next piece.
“This one is called John Bull” he pointed on an old model.

“Yes. It is” Penny took a sudden interest, “It is one of my favourites”
He looked around more, “I can recognise them all with my system”
“That’s cool” Penny said, “what about this one” she pointed to a Train.
“It’s from India, Deccan Queen” He said.

“Wow, what about this” She showed him the one in her hand, with a smile on her face.

“Flying Scotsman” He said as he knelt in front of her.

“That’s right” she said, “I am having a hard time assembling it”

“Let’s see what I can do” He took it from her hand and glued a piece on it, without taking his eyes of the model he grabbed another piece and glued it on. Penny sat there in awe as the android worked on it. He finished it in less than a minute, and very clean.
“Let’s keep it to dry now, shall we?”
