Nona's POV
"A limb has fallen from the family tree.
I keep hearing a voice that says, "Grieve not for me.
Remember the best times, the laughter, the song.
The good life I lived while I was strong.
Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you.
Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest.
Remembering all, how I truly was blessed.
Continue traditions, no matter how small.
Go on with your life, don't worry about falls
I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin.
Until the day comes we're together again."A tear fell down my face as my eyes failed to focus on the italic text printed on the folded program. My heart was near its breaking point. I hadn't felt pain like this in a while. The atmosphere at the funeral home was lugubrious. Morbid. A true devastation to all.
Kris stood in front of me, patiently waiting to approach the two caskets, in which were openly facing the hollow ceiling. I lifted my head and noticed a river begin to drift from under her lower eyelid.
Soon after, the river made its way onto my pale, deserted face.
"I ca- ca- can't do this, No- Nona..." Kris started as she glanced back at me, stammering on her words. I quickly pulled her into a soft hug.
We cried endlessly within a span of 10 seconds. Then, I let go of her... still speechless. She proceeded ahead to the first casket.
"My bro-ther..." she whimpered. "Bro..." Then, right then and there, Kris fainted.
