I sat on the grey wall of the Bray Beach, running my docs through the many pebbles and stones that filled the beach. I had gotten myself a bag of greasy, warm but really delicious fat chips. I was waiting for Declan and had been for a good ten or so minutes. The night was surprisingly cold compared to what it was like during the day. It was also windy, making my hair even more messier than usual. A crow landed beside me and was staring my chips.
"No." I said pulling my bag away.
It flew off, what a strange bird. I then pulled down the bag and opened it up again, proceeding to eat some more.
"Hey!" Declan yelled, it was very loud as the beach was practically empty, it made me jump. He ran up to be jumping on to the wall beside me. He held a bag of Dunnes Stores doughnuts. He opened it up and held it out in front of me. "Want one?"
"I'm fine I have my chips," I replied.
Declan pulled back his bag and sighed, "your loss Stevie Wonder."
"Stevie Nicks."
"Hmm?" he mumbled through a mouth bitten into a sugar-covered jam doughnut.
"Stevie Nicks," I repeated, "my mum is a massive Fleetwood Mac fan and named me after Stevie Nicks."
"Oh," he swallowed his doughnut, "is your older sister named after another member."
"No," I replied, no one had really met my older sister as she is five years older and is currently studying in Shetland Islands, "her name is Gillan after the Guitarist of New Order."
"Ah," Declan said, "Mam named the girls names that sounded nice and Dad named me after himself, how original."
I giggled, "well your Dad is pretty cool and Noife and Liz are very nice names."
"Yeah."
Declan stood up, "Well Stephanie-Lynn, we better get to what I asked you here for."
I stood up myself, "what do you want me to do?"
"Make it rain!" he laughed.
"I can't do that," I replied.
"But you made the cloud in Noife's room?"
"I...I know, but I was alone and I don't even know how to pull off something that big..." I shared down at my feet.
"Just give it a try," Declan took my hand and pulled up.
"I can't..." I shook my head.
"If you do it, I'll show you something special."
I narrowed my eyes.
"I'm serious!" Declan laughed.
I closed my eyes, "fine." I took a heavy breath and opened my eyes again. I looked up into the starry sky, the crescent moon shone bright against the dark blue sky. I raised up my arms. I narrowed my eyes in concentration. The thin grey clouds in the sky became heavy and deepened in colour, turning almost black. I took a heavy breath.
Lightening flashed through the sky and a couple of seconds later there was a load booming of thunder. The heavy cold rain poured down powerfully from the sky. I had quickly and luckily opened up my umbrella, Declan was not so lucky.
"I made it rain!" I shouted over the loud sound of the rain.
"Can you turn it down?" he shouted back.
"Alright!" I replied, softening the rain fall.
Declan stood infront of me, stretching out a hand and taking hold of mine. "Now watch."
The raindrops stood still in front of my very eyes. The wind stop also, my hair that was being blown from behind froze. I couldn't speak or otherwise move in any shape or form. Declan smirked mischievously then let go of my hand.
"There," he stepped back and slid his hands into his trousers pockets.
"What the hell was that?! " I shouted without thinking, I then covered my mouth with my hand in embarrassment, "sorry…"
"It's okay, do you want to go back to mine and watch X-men?" he asked.
"As much as it would be fitting," I crouched down to grab my umbrella from the wet stones, "I need to get home, my parents might get worried."
Declan shrugged, "see you on Monday, I guess."
"Yeah…" I looked down.
