Niall stopped the car and smiled at me. We appeared to be a diner of sorts, although the parking lot was void of almost all cars. Niall jumped out and jogged to my side, propping the door open for me, "M'lady," Niall bowed and I rolled my eyes, God he was so stupid but the small gesture made me smile. I slowly climbed out of his beat up car and took in my surroundings. We appeared to be on the outskirts of town, coincidentally at a run down diner.
"C'mon," Niall offered an arm which I ignored. I followed his lead into the restaurant and wasn't surprised by the old feel to the place. A bar with red stools was set up and directly across from it was a set of matching coloured booths. Niall grabbed onto my hand and pulled me to the middle booth. I ripped my hand way from his grip and scowled, I didn't exactly want to be here but I suppose it could be worse.
Niall scanned the menu as I sat fiddling my thumbs in silence. I hated awkwardness, in fact I hated it more than the boy sitting across from me. An ancient looking waitress approached our table and smiled at us. "And what can I get the two love birds today?"
I gave the old woman a crazy look, "We're not a-"
"Yeah I'll have a water with the burger and crisps, and as for the lovely lady," Niall winked and my frown deepened. "You might wanna ask her." The old woman's smile widened and I felt like throwing up, some people were just so dense they couldn't recognise love from hate.
I swiped Niall's menu from him and looked it over, might as well get a free meal. "I'll have tea with cinnamon, sugar, and whipped cream. And just a slice of cherry pie." The waitress nodded and left our table, the annoying grin never leaving her wrinkled face. Niall nudged me under the table and I kicked him back twice as hard, causing his face to contort in pain. I smiled fakely and crossed my legs.
"Ouch," Niall muttered rubbing his shin. "Why don't you try being nice once in while? I mean it really isn't that bad."
"I'll start being nice once you stop being a perverted creep," I spat back crossing my arms defensively. I hated being insulted but I knew I was being a bitch. Niall shrugged and presented his trademark smirk, something I hated but somewhere kind of liked.
"Why do you put so much shit in your tea? Doesn't that taste awful?" Niall questioned staring at me, which made me feel uncomfortable. I couldn't believe I was ditching school with this idiot, well I was more or less taken but this still counted as ditching. I shrugged in the manner Niall had and averted my eyes away from his burning stare.
"Niall?" I finally spoke after a bit of time. Niall brought his eyes up to meet mine. "I mean, I'm not trying to get your ego up or anything but why me? Wait that came out wrong," I stuttered feeling my face heat up. "What I meant is like I'm sure a lot of girls would like to be with you or whatever, or shag you at least. Why do you keep bothering me when there are plenty of sluts- I mean girls who are willing to fuck you?"
Niall chuckled and shook his head, "Thanks for the somewhat compliment and I've already explained this to you," he leaned closer towards me and smirked. "I want you, and I always get what I want."
Niall leaned back in his seat and I sat quietly, I didn't get it. Wasn't it clear that I wasn't going to fuck him? That's all he wanted, was to say he fucked a virgin, although I was almost positive he already had. He was nothing but a sex crazed boy, it made sense at this age but most guys moved on after they figured out the girl wouldn't give into them. Niall said he wanted me and he surely meant only for sex, he didn't come off as the relationship type of guy.
The few words we had exchanged were some of the few where he wasn't saying something gross and where I wasn't being a bitch or yelling. The elderly waitress returned with a tray that looked like it might break her frail arms. She placed my piece of pie and tea in front of me and I couldn't help but smile, the tea reminded me of my grandmother who introduced me to the strange combination.
I happily ate my food and enjoyed the silence that stuffing our faces brought. I almost felt bad that the small diner was almost empty, they had pretty good pie and the tea was delicious. Niall seemed to enjoy his own food and I took it as my opportunity to escape to the washroom.
"I'll be right back."
Niall wiped crumbs from the corners of his mouth and muttered something I couldn't understand, seeing as his face was stuffed full of food. I quickly got up and went to the small washroom, examining my complexion in the scratched mirror. Niall wasn't wrong when he said I looked like shit, at least he was honest.
I groaned as I tried to fix my hair, attempting to comb through it with my fingers. My hair was frizzy and just awful looking in general. After five minutes of trying to fix my hair I gave up and wandered out of the bathroom, wishing I could go home and take a nap.
Niall sat at the table playing on his phone, he looked up when I sat down and slide his phone into his pocket. "I already got the meal paid for so we're free to go," he smiled and I actually returned it. Once again I followed his lead to leave the diner and waved to the old waitress who was standing behind the bar, giving up a wide smile. We proceeded to the car and Niall held the door open for me, his sudden chivalry throwing me for a round.
I sat in the car, I sort of felt something had changed between us but I knew it wasn't the case. Niall was still going to be himself and so would I. Once Niall was situated in the driver seat and we had left the parking lot I spoke, "Thanks for the food. You didn't have to do that," I was so awkward and I wanted to smack myself.
"Think of it as an apology for these," Niall brushed his fingertips against the hickeys that decorated my neck. I shivered under his touch and felt a jolt run through me, making my heart beat faster. I prayed that he wouldn't be able to feel my pulse quicken, but it was a stupid prayer knowing my jugular vein was near his fingertips.
Niall slowed the car and pulled it off near a curb. We were near a row of houses and I didn't exactly know why he stopped. Throwing the gear shift into park, Niall cut the engine but left it so that you could still play the radio. He switched through various stations and settled on one playing The 1975. I watched his actions confused as to what we were doing, being stopped in front of a bunch of random houses.
"Niall what are-"
He effectively silenced my sentence by leaning across the console and pressing his lips to mine. At first I was so surprised I didn't move but once I felt Niall move his lips against mine I slowly gave in. His lips were so soft and warm and who knew kissing was this good? Hell if I did I would've had mine ages ago. Niall cupped my cheek and I slipped my hands around his neck, the position feeling oddly comforting.
It all felt so natural, it didn't feel like I was kissing a boy I hated, it felt right, so oddly right. To my surprise Niall broke the kiss instead of me and he stared, confusion on his face. He looked like he had just done something horrible and it worried me. I had no idea what just happened and I had no idea why I let it happen.
"Sorry," Niall muttered and roughly started his car, peeling away from the curb. I was slammed back into my seat by the force of his accelerating car.
I had just lost my first kiss to Niall Horan, a boy I seemed to despise yet yearn for at the same time.
