I Wasn't Enough

Your challenge is to write a 500-word open letter to your secret crush, telling them how you feel. Bare your soul and share the love letter that you'd never send. Whether you name your crush or not - put yourself out there like Lara Jean and, to quote Josh, "Tell people how you feel when you feel it."

My Entry:

Dear Matt,

I'm sad to say that there is only one week left of school. You and I have been best buds ever since you've transferred in the beginning of this year and yet, I haven't been honest to you.

I like you.

I've tried to show it to you in every possible way for 180 days. That's why I joined you everyday after school for tutoring when you wanted to teach more. When you asked me to join your math club, I did without hesitation. Or when I occasionally made cookies for you because you deserved it.

But it wasn't enough - I wasn't enough.

I'd dreamed of you and I holding hands for the world to see, laughing our butts of like there isn't a single thing in this world that could stop us from enjoying life. What I thought was my beautiful reality was indeed just a dream. A dream that ends with a broken heart.

I know that it's too late to say this to you, but with your new girlfriend now, I just couldn't contain my emotions within me anymore.

Where did I go wrong? I tell myself that everytime I see you walk into class happily. Was it because she was prettier and skinnier than me? Was it our age difference?

Ohhhh... How foolish of me... The answer was always there all along.

Your a teacher and I'm a student.

People will always stereotype all relationships but this one in particular breaks the boundaries. I'll be called all sorts of names and you will get punished by law if this relationship ever happened. That is why this silly dream of mine has to end now.

Don't worry, you will always hold a place in my heart as my first buddy, my first favorite teacher, and my first love.

I hope she makes you happy and I hope you make her smile everyday. There's a saying that goes, 'One man's loss is another man's gain.' So don't lose her to anyone. I also wish you the best because my happiness comes from your happiness.

I won't be seeing anymore of you after next week. I'll be heading to college to pursue my career and you will keep teaching in this school for as long as you want. You'll eventually get married and I will finally meet my special person.

If you ever find this letter I just want you to know...

I'll wish upon the stars to give us a another chance at love in our next life.

And I hope that I would always be enough for you.

Yours truly, Abby.
