The little humpback creatures scurried across the tiled floor of the hospital. If standing fully erect, they would be maybe three feet tall at most, but due to their hunched stance, they were maybe two and a half feet. They shied away from the crowded hallways and did their best to stay to the shadows.
One of the two reached up to feel the red cap it wore on its head, and slight panic appeared on its face. It slugged its partner in the face to get its attention. After a conversation of guttural whistles and grunts, the two looked around and found the door they'd been looking for. They ran for it and when they reached it, one climbed on top of the other to make sure they could reach the door knob.
They entered the room and found its sole occupant resting in bed, asleep and connected to a wide assortment of wires and tubes. The two creatures closed the door, locked it, and then scampered over to the sleeping man.
They climbed up on top of the bed and looked over the man, each from a different side of the bed. There was more conversation in the guttural language, which ended with one of them laughing wickedly. They each reached into their respective pockets and pulled out long knives that were impossibly large for the pockets they came from.
The two of them plunged the knives into the sleeping man, over and over. They chuckled with glee as blood spurted all over the room. One nearly fell off the bed with laughter when it saw its partner take arterial spray directly in the eye.
Machines went crazy with beeping and alarms all over the place. The monsters took their caps, and smeared them in the blood of their victim, letting their head gear become sopping wet. They then ran over to the window and smashed it open. They jumped out and rolled on the ground as they landed two stories below. Laughing, they ran into the surrounding foliage, and then disappeared into a shimmering gate that closed after they were through.
On the other side of the gate they ran up the autumn hillside into an ancient yet immaculate castle. None of the castle inhabitants interrupted their progress to the very center of the castle, the throne room. Stopping in the center of the room, the creatures started speaking to the person sitting on top of the throne.
The bored looking man was sitting, listening with disinterest, but at one point in the creature’s speech, he stood up abruptly. “Wait! Repeat that last part.”
The speaking one repeated a series of pops, grunts and whistles.
The Goblin King smiled. That smile then turned to a grin, and then a chuckle, and then a full-blown hearty laugh.
