in a society where adults control children as if they are robots, the children are brought up to be respectful, rule following, and can't think for themselves. the adults rule, and children can't have opinions or form friendships with others.
basically, children aren't allowed to live like regular humans.
but there are nine girls. these nine girls broke society's rules and are somehow able to think regularly. they aren't exactly human, but they aren't inhuman either. during one of their supervised school trips, the nine girls meet nine boys who are just like them.
together, they formulate a plan to break out of the city, and find their way to a new and better life, far away from the controlling parents they are escaping from.
along the way, maybe some romance will ensue, but it's mostly about fighting their way out of their past lives and finding their true selves, which are buried deep inside their hearts and minds.
