Chapter 2
Rachel.
Thursday, May 22nd, 2:25 PM
To Rachel, there was no greater feeling than walking into the choir room after a long and boring day. Today was no exception. As she entered the room, cuddled up to Finn, a huge smile broke onto her face. The room was cooler than most classrooms in the school - the windows were open, letting cool air drift through the humid air. From the windows, Rachel could see a bright blue sky, filling the room with beautiful, natural light. This gave her a warm and fuzzy feeling. Her head was already reeling with a bunch of song ideas for them to perform - all featuring her on lead vocal.
As she and Finn entered, Kurt and Blaine close behind her, the first thing she spotted was the rest of her group of friends sitting in a clump on the left side of the room; beautiful head cheerleader Quinn Fabray, her boyfriend, handsome and sporty Sam Evans, the zany but down-to-earth Brittany S. Pearce, and the sassy-yet-sweet Santana Lopez. Typically, they would be spend the beginning of Glee rehearsal laughing and sharing stories. But today, they all looked rather sullen and pouty. Rachel looked back at the boys, who looked equally confused to see the group so down. They hurried to their seats. Rachel hopped into her front row seat, beside Santana.
"What's going on?" Rachel asked, looking around to the group. "Usually you guys are much more upbeat than this."
"Did something happen?" Kurt asked, biting his lip anxiously.
"No, we're just annoyed." Sam said, finally breaking the silence.
"Why?" Finn asked. His arm found its way around Rachel's shoulders, almost automatically. She allowed herself to smile at this.
"Well, Frankenteen, once again, we have nothing to do this weekend." Santana moaned, her dark eyebrows knit together in aggravation.
"What are you talking about, we hang out every weekend." Blaine responded, sinking into his chair beside Kurt.
"Not every weekend is Memorial Day weekend." Quinn said. "I've been listening to everyone in school go on and on about their plans, and nobody in our entire group of friends has bothered to try and make any! We can't spend another weekend hiding in Blaine's basement, watching Big Brother reruns."
"We need to do something memorable." Sam said, running a hand through his messy blond hair. "I don't even care what."
As the bickering continued, Rachel avoided all her friends eyes. A sensation of guilt was finding its way into her stomach. She knew she could easily convince her parents to let her bring her full group of friends to the cabin, but there was a part of her that was looking forward to just the four of them going. Her, Kurt, Blaine and Finn did everything with the others. Was it so horrible to want some time alone with her boyfriend and best friends? Plus, with her and Finn spending a romantic weekend together, it gave Kurt and Blaine a chance to finally talk about becoming more than friends. She loved her group of friends, but she really, really wanted some alone time with her main boys.
However, she knew it wasn't fair to them. She would feel horrible if her and the boys went off and had a weekend of fun, and the others were left sitting around and doing nothing. Rachel knew she needed to talk to one of the boys, and figure out what to do. Smoothing out her skirt, she stood up, abruptly, and addressed the full group.
"I just realized, I left my sheet music in my locker! Gosh, I am so dumb sometimes! Kurt, could you come with me to get it?"
"Why can't you go by yourself?" Kurt whined, crossing his legs. "I just sat down."
