“Hey lad!” Danny comes to me and gives me this short man hug. “How were the holidays?”

“Fine” I say smiling as we make our way to the lockers. “How was yours?”

Before Danny can answer my question more people walk to our lockers. I can see Zayn, Abby and Leah walking towards us.

“Liam, bro!” Zayn also gives me this man like hug, but Abby pushes him aside after a while.

“Baby” she says smiling, biting her lip as she wraps her arms around me. “I missed you” she says and presses her lips against mine. My hands rest on her back to hold her close to me.

“I missed you too, honey.” Zayn looks at me as if he says ‘let’s go to class’ so I decide to let go of my girlfriend and follow Zayn. I am soon followed by the rest of the group. It’s nice to be popular, actually. Even though you may not know who your real friends are and who are not, you’re never alone. And that’s what matters to me. I am quite sure about Zayn being my friend, though and Danny of course. We have been friends for a long time, but since we joined the football team last year we have become popular. It is quite funny, considering the fact that we always were the least popular guys; you can say nerds, in class. So it feels good to see that tables have turned.

I quickly make my way to the back of the class and sit down on the chair that’s in the corner. My arm rests on the chair next to me, holding it open for my girlfriend. I can see Abby talking to Leah in front of the classroom door, so I guess she will be coming soon. Suddenly, my eyes are drawn to Zayn who is coming closer, almost sitting down next to me.

“Dude!” I say, gesturing to Abby who is making her way to the chair next to me. He looks at her and then returns to me and rolls his eyes, as if he says ‘fine’.

“So how’s my girlfriend doing today?” I ask, slowly making my way to her lips. Her hands move to my jaw and a giggle escapes from her mouth.

“Fine, actually.” Her lips touch mine and I kiss back. My arms wrap around her again and her hands move to the back of my head.

“Mister Payne?” Mrs. Cross calls for me.

“Yes ma’am?” I say, only turning my head a little.

“This is a classroom, not a hotelroom. Understood?” Dang the bitch is cranky today. She looks so dreadful with her glasses halfway down her nose and her awful skirt. Her gray hair looks totally dead and her breath smells like complete and utter shit. I’m glad I’m not her husband, because then I would have to live with that thing everyday…

“What are you going to do about it?” I say, pushing her over the edge.

“Wasn’t I clear enough?” She almost shouts. I swear that if she shouted just a little louder I would have been able to smell her stinky breath here in the back of the class. “Was I clear, Mister Payne?” she asks again.

“Yes ma’am...” I roll my eyes and let go of Abby. She takes my hand shortly after and looks at me with a small smile. Her lips form the words I love you and it makes me smile.

Class is finally over and me and Abby walk out the room hand in hand.

“I’ll see you later, love-,” I say “-I have football practice now, but I’ll be back soon.” My arms wrap around Abby’s waste again and I plant a kiss on her forehead. “See you later, babe.”

“I love you, baby.” She says.

I plant another kiss on her forehead and let go of her. I walk away and rush to football practice. I hope I’m still in time, though. I am so close to becoming a quarterback that I can’t afford to come late, or otherwise my chances of becoming a quarterback will be ruined.

“Hey, man. Where were you?” Zayn asks me, “I was about to leave.”

“Yeah sorry that you’ve waited so long, Zayn, but you can go to the field without me if you want. I’ll be there in a second.”

“No, I’m not leaving without you, bro” he says and I laugh.

“Suit yourself” I say and he chuckles.

“What the hell are you thinking, you fuckers?! We are starting in a minute!” Danny says as his head pops up from behind the door.

“We’re done, actually.” I grab my bag and Zayn grabs his. “Let’s go.”

The training goes well -good actually- and I think my chances of becoming a quarterback have grown. I have been taking some extra training over the past few months. I think I might actually have a chance.

“There you are.” I turn around to see Louis standing behind me.

“Hey, man!” Louis is the current quarterback, but he is changing positions in the field. He is a good guy, but he has his dark side.

“There’s a party tonight, my place. Wanna come?” He asks me, his head faced down a little to look at me. Do I want to go to a party tonight? Abby wanted to be with me tonight, but I can’t say no to this. She could come with me I guess.

“Yeah sure, I’ll come.” He looks at me with a half of a smile.

“Good.” He says before he walks away.

My whole mind has been set on how to convince Abby to come with me tonight. I have been thinking about it while walking back to school, but have thought of nothing so far. She hates Louis, but I think he is a good lad. Well, most of the time. This is important for me, very important actually. She must think I am being selfish again; trying to dig my way up from my position, but I know better. I know that when I am not there tonight, people will talk about me behind my back, trying to steal my almost reachable position as a quarterback. I must tell Abby to come with me, even if it’s only for a few hours. I have to go.
