If u saw the ending, you know why Kenny was turned away. They had an overpopulation problem and had been forced to turn many people away before, only allowing Clem and AJ in because they are young. If u watched the flashback, u will know that Clem became a member of the community and had jobs. If it were up to me, we wouldve actually spent time in the community getting to know people.
U would also know that the settlement was raided and Clem, AJ and Edith were forced to flee, Edith being shot in head and Clem on the cheek, giving her a scar.About a year has passed. Clem is hunting or scavenging or whatever with a small group. They are talking about what Clem did before she got there. I know, it's unlikely that they would wait a year to ask her that, but there you go. Back at Wellington, food and medicine is being rationed, but they have a trade deal with a local tribe (like the bandits in s1 ep3 but more organised). Many of them were denied entry or exiled.
But, like in s1 ep3, they cant keep the deal going, so they attack. Well, not yet anyway. It happens similarly to the Governor's attack on the Prison, but without a tank 😂. As they move to the settlement, they find Clem and the group, 4 others, and take them hostage. The other difference is that the leader of this clan is more like Rick was when the Gov arrived. When they roll up to the gates, filling the horizon with them, he demands that they either let them in or they will come in and take the town. He gives them a choice, to live together, unlike the Gov who rejected Rick's offer.
The leader of Wellington (who btw shouldve been Lilly (ooo imagine the tension when she saw Kenny and Clem) tells them that they are stretched thin, hence why they couldnt keep the deal going, and that there isnt enough to go around if they let them in. The leader of the tribe tries to negotiate and pleads with her, reminder her that they are desperate not monsters. They couldve just stormed in but they didnt. But not getting anywhere, he starts to threaten killing the hostages.
He says that "just because u have a comfy bed to sleep in, clean clothes and walls all around don't make u civilized. "U call yourself a community but u let your own people die? "We have families here! We are sick and starving! We struggle to find a pot to piss in and a roof over our heads! We're dying out here, and u're hoarding everything for yourselves! We just want to survive! We can help u! Build more houses, grow more food, whatever it takes to make it work."
Lilly says "I'm sorry. But we can't let u in. That's that. Go back where u came from and we neve have to meet again."
Enraged, he shoots one of the hostages. The others, and those at the gates are all in shock (obviously). He shouts "Change your mind yet? No? Back to it then!" He goes to shoot another man, and Lilly cries out "HALF!" The leader is amused by this offer. Lilly gives him an ultimatum of half of everything they have. Food, medicine, blankets, building materials. That's her final offer. He asks why he let him kill one hostage but not this one. Lilly tells him that he is their doctor. He reluctantly accepts, which neither people are happy about and fingers tighten on the trigger. Their right hand men tell them that this is not what they came here to do,Lilly's telling her that they can't possibly survive giving away that much, and the other (I a name now. Let's say Titus) that they came her to take Wellington. It's clear that he is more principled than most of his people. Finally, after conferring, he accepts the offer, saying "it's this or war". The terms of the deal are agreed. But then, he throws a curve ball, and says that he wants to keep two of them, the doctor and Clem 😲. He says "half of everything u have right", and says that they need the doctor more than they do. Oh yeah, Clem is able to have dialogue choices btw, just imagine that part 😂. Titus says that he likes Clem. After spending a few hours with her (which u experience too) he thinks she is smart and strong: a valuable member of their tribe. He sees potential in her, which is wasted in those walls.
Lilly says that Clem has a son, AJ. She has to explain that he is not her biological son, obviously, but that they are inseparable. Titus says "we'll have to take him too then". Clem obviously loses her shit saying "we can't go back out there! It"s suicide! This is our home and I gave up everything go get here". Titus says "ain't my fault your leader is a stubborn bitch that doesnt give a shit about anyone outside those walls!"
It turns out that a rival of Lilly (Simon to her Negan) that is far more protectionist and violent than her got a group together to assault them, who got out a start attacking them with guns and grendes. A lot of his clan use bows and arrows and axes since ammo is scarce, picked clean by Wellington, and Lilly loses her shit. Titus calls out to attack Wellington and they flood in. The next minute is bullets, blood, explosions, screams and all that lovely stuff. Clem escapes and runs through the chaos to find AJ. Titus, after slaughtering several people, goes after her... Clem reaches her place and finds AJ. Titus attacks Clem and there is an awesome fight between. Eventually Clem manages to pick up his machete and plunges it through his stomach. He last blood gurgling words are 'oh yeah. I like you a LOT!"
Then Edith appears, they grab AJ, and they flee. Wellington is lost, engulfed in flames, and unfortunately, Edith meets the same fate, as well as Clem. Her and AJ run away into the forest... and the flashback ends...
How's that for story telling Telltale motherfuckers????!!!!
