The stone door finally rolled open, and I laughed in anticipation. The dark interior filled me with excitement; some of the more stupid humans would feel fear, but I prided myself in having basically no emotions. Anyhow, humans don't fear darkness - they fear the unknown. Those who are willing to take risks aren't scared of it because darkness is scary, but because they don't know what may be hiding there. I wasn't afraid of the unknown - I was eager to explore it. This being so, darkness was not a fear but a love. Not a foe but a friend.
"Kalis? Are you awake? Hello?" Alpha waved her jointed hand in front of my face.
"What're you talking about? Of course!" I pointed inside the dark chamber. "Light the room up!"
She took out a small spherical lantern and tossed it inside. My mouth widened in awe; a small gasp escaped my lips as I beheld the magnificent vaulted chamber filled with treasure.
Just kidding.
The room was extremely small. At the far side was an altar depicting people dying of hunger and praying to the gods for help. Many sections of it appeared to have suffered from leaking groundwater, and there were pools of murky liquid and algae all over the cold stone floor. A large gilded table lay on its side, with several large candles, long burnt out, collecting dust on the ground. A small overturned pile of rotten fruit cores lay under a golden plate before the altar, and I wondered what this might have looked like when it was in use.
Suddenly, I felt something cold touch my back. "Hey! Alpha! Don't scare me like that!"
But she wasn't there.
"Alpha...?" I stuttered, turning around.
Only Epsilon. For some reason, it felt like the edges of the room were expanding as I stood anchored to the ground by some unknown force. Something began to beat in my ear, and I felt strangely dizzy. I started to feel tired, as if I had just run a hundred miles from a pair of criminals who had just murdered my only friends.
Who are you?
I looked around for the source of the voice, but there was nothing. No one. I was alone. And for the first time in forever, I felt strangely afraid. No... afraid wasn't the right word. Sad. That's it! I don't feel fear!
You aren't alone. And yes, you do feel fear.
"Whoa, who the heck are you? And why can you read my mind! Get out! I have all sorts of secr- I mean, blueprints in there."
Someone laughed in my head, and I frowned.
"Seriously! Tell me something at least - This darkness is so boring!"
My name is Therea Vivas, the first of those sacrificed by the Navidian kingdom.
"Wait, you can't be serious! You died!"
Silence.
I know...no need to rub it in...meanie.
"Then, are you a ghost?"
I'm not a ghost - I'm a spirit. Well, I think I am, anyways.
"But, how?"
I don't know! It's not like I was like "oh, I want to be a ghost" and then some God was like "yeah, sure." Anyways, we can talk later. I've been in this room for 260 years; I want to get out!
I frowned in confusion. "Wait, but can't you just leave? I mean, the door's open!"
Idiot! I can see that! But as a spirit, I need a host.
"A host?"
That's what I said, isn't it?
"Hey - stop being so salty. Why haven't you already picked a host already?"
