There is something truly hypnotizing about listening to someone talk about something they love. Maybe it's the way their eyes light up and their tongue starts running to the point where their words are tripping over one another. Maybe it's how they can be staring into the distance and peeking into your soul at the same time. It could even be how their hands start moving and their voice fluctuates and nothing else in the world seems to matter.
When I fell in love, I fell for that look and everything he said while wearing it. I fell in love with his pre-show jitters, his three in the morning baking impulses, and his infatuation with horror flicks. He was such a wonderful, awkward soul. There would always be crazy questions popping into his mind at the most random of times, and he'd always call me when one decided to show up.
His open-mindedness astounded me. No matter what crazy adventure I wanted to go on, he was there. He'd pull up in front of my house in that beat up baby blue pickup and say, "Let's do it."
I miss him everyday. There are times that I think I hear his voice or get a whiff of his scent. At those moments, everything comes back like a tidal wave.
And every time that tidal wave comes, I'm the one who drowns.
