Diego's POV

I don't get why Lily's so mad at me. So I blew my fuse, but it was because I was going through a phase

Wasn't she going through just the same? If not worse?

My conscience told me.

Yesterday after the fair, I really wanted to talk, iron things out, because I realised that,' I'm in love with Lily'.
I was stupid to act the way I did and now I might just lose her.

"World to weirdo," Jeremy said walking to the refrigerator.

"Remind me again why you have a key to my house," I asked.

"Because Lily gave hers to me and you didn't want it back," he said in a matter of fact manner.

"So, how was 'adulting' yesterday?" he asked.

"I'm in love with Lily," I told him.

"Nothing new," he said picking up the milk carton and drinking directly from it.

"How-how did you know?"

"When you started leaving work early to pick her up almost everyday," Jeremy said.

"But she was pregnant," I retorted.

"And you used it as an excuse," he pointed out.

"What do I do?" I asked him.

"That's easy, right your wrongs," he told me.

"How?" I asked.

"You not only want me to get the spoon, but feed you also? Do what she likes, get her flowers. Take her out to dinner, surprise her at work," Jeremy suggested.

"And if she still turns me down?" I ask.

"Go back to the drawing board, persistence breaks resistance," Jeremy said sounding a hundred percent sure of himself.

"Okay, I'll do that," I said starting to think of all the things Lily likes. It was hard really, because the simplest things made her happy.

"I know what I'll do," I said in a light bulb moment.

"Just make sure she doesn't claw your eyes out," Jeremy told me throwing his head back in laughter.

I knew Lily had the week off so, I took advantage and called in to work sick. I then went to the book store down on Myer Street and picked up enough books to spell out 'I'm sorry'.

Once we got to Lily's, I ordered them to quietly spell it out on the lawn and I stood inside the 'O' laden with her favourite novel by Hellena brooks and the largest box of Lindor chocolate.

When she opened the door, the surprise on her face was worth it. She was literally knocked for nine.

"I - uhm, what's all this?" she asked.

"It uhm, it makes more sense if-" I started to say.

"It spells 'I'm sorry," Lucy shouted from Lily's bedroom window. How was she always home these days?

"Okay, so, you thought a bunch of books and chocolate would be enough of an apology for all you've done?" she said with such bitterness tht my heart sank.

"Lily, I know it's not enough, and I also know that it never will be," I told her.

"Then why are you here?" she asked.

"To show you how sorry I am. I don't expect you to forgive me right away, but I just need you to know that I am willing to do whatever it takes Lily," I told her sincerely.

"Why?" she said quietly.

"Because I love you," I said wholeheartedly.

Lily then turned and walked into the house.
I stood there and looked at the closed door.

"This is all sooo beautiful Diego. If it were for me, we'd be heading to the Chapel right now," Lucy yelled from her room giving me a 'thumbs up'.

"Thanks," I said and instructed the delivery men to pack up everything.

Lily's POV

"Oooh, Lils, that was sooooo sweet," Lucy said running down the stairs.

"Whatever," I said brushing her off.

"Lils, are you all right," Lucy said when she saw me going deep into my thoughts.

"He told me he loves me," I answered her.

"Then why do you look like that?" Lily said motioning at me head to toe.

"I-I don't know, I don't know if I should believe him," I told her.

"Lils, the man brought you an entire bookshop. Hell, I've had a thousand makes ups and none of them have been this thoughtful," Lucy told me.

"Lucy, it's not like that," I started to say.

"Then tell me what it's like," she told me.

"He left me Lucy, left me when I really needed him. Then he rubbed another woman in my face and showed me that he could live without me," I reminded her.

"He was grieving Lils, he needed the time. I more than anyone knows that grief can make you do stupid stuff," Lucy said.

"Like date a guy only to feel whole again?" I ask her, referring to the time she dated some Maximilian guy after her break up with Logan.

"Yes, even stupid stuff like that. I'm not telling you to go easy on him, I'm telling you to give him another chance, with your guard at a steady level; not all the way up," Lucy emphasised the last bit.

"I'll think about it, I'm not sure what I want," I tell her.

"And that's fine. It doesn't have to be instantaneous. I mean the guy's a stud and he could come in handy when I write the wrong kind of article," Lucy jokes.

"Thank you Lucy," I say giving her a massive hug.

"Did you at least get the chocolate?" Lucy joked.

"I wish I did," I said laughing and wiping the tears I'd started to shed.

"You guys will find your way back to each other, true love has a way of doing that," Lucy assured me.

"You sound just like Ethan," I tell her.

"Speaking of him, I swear I thought you'd date him," Lucy said to me.

"Nope, I'm not a mender," I tell her. "Ethan is a male you. He just got out of a relationship of seven years. He wants a new start, but only after he feels ready," I finish off so as to get rid of the weird face she'd made.

😢 And here I was starting to like Ethan for Lily and all.

All rightie, an early update. I hope you enjoyed the read.
