Every year, the kingdom of Creissea holds the annual Midsummer Festival, where each of the eight days and eight nights are spent drinking, dancing, and celebrating under the protection of a mask. Established centuries ago under the rule of King Leopold in order to maintain peace, harmony, and understanding among Creissea's citizens, it is the one time of the year where nobles and commoners are treated as equals.

Elena Blakesley is a member of the Ath Seyan, a secret group of highly trained magic wielders and warriors sworn to protect the Creissean people from evil. When word of a plot to end King Aleksey's life during the Midsummer Festival reaches their ears, Elena and her unit are sent up to the palace to keep an eye on him. Between playing babysitter to a troublesome young King, finding a rumored assassin, and navigating a crowd where everyone is a potential enemy guised under a veil of anonymity, they definitely have their work cut out for them.

Enemies lurk around every corner in the Creissean royal court. In a room full of masked people, no one can be trusted. And when things start to turn into a game of power, politics, and intrigue, one wrong move could prove to be just as deadly as Elena's blade.
