(PROLOGUE) We're Not Getting a Fucking Puppy

Solo wanted a pet. She had been bringing it up every five minutes for the past month. That's how I found us standing in front of Pets&Plus.

"OH MY GODD! BEY LOOK AT THE ADORABLE KITTENS IN THE WINDOW!!!"

I rolled my eyes at her excitement. I was less than enthusiastic about having another creature to take care of. I never understood people's infatuation with owning an animal. They're cute but that doesn't mean I wanna take care of it.

"Remember we ain't buying anything today. Just checking the prices."

She mumbled an unconvincing "mmhm" and ran into the store. Money wasn't too big of an issue but it was something we had to be careful of. I'm Sol's legal guardian because we were both kicked out of our house last school year. Ma caught her in bed with a girl and I stuck by her when she kicked her out. I waited until my 18th birthday to go to CPS and basically adopt my sister. It wasn't to hard though because I had a job, some money saved up, and only one year left of school. We get $875 a month from the government and I make about $1,100 a month myself- except this summer I racked up about 7,000. Also Solo's started looking for a job now that she's 16.

It may sound like alot but we've gotta pay phone bills, food, housing, and all that shit. And the government money stops once Sol turns 18 so we've gotta be saving up. Besides the money, we don't have much time either. I work 12 hours shifts during the weekend and I've got track and school to worry about during the week. We really don't need another fucking responsibility but Sol's had a tough year so I agreed to maybe a hamster or something else that I could easily forget about.

I groaned when I walked into the store and saw my little sis gushing over a puppy. There was no way in hell. I shot her a glare when she sent me a pouty face.

"Don't even ask."

"But B, how could you say no to his lil face. Doesn't lookin' at him make you feel warm and fuzzy inside??!" Solo held the puppy in front of my face. I stared that bitch dead in the eyes.

"I. Feel. Nothing." I said as blunt as possible.

She went back to coddling the little black and white dog in her arms as she muttered "heartless bitch" under her breath.

I rolled my eyes. "Hey what about this fish?" At this point I just wanted to get as far away as possible from that damn puppy.

"Too late. I'm attached."

I groaned. I knew this was mistake.

"Can I 'elp yu ladies?" I heard someone with a thick ancient speak behind me. I turned around to speak to her but Sol's annoying ass beat me to it.

"How much does he cost?" I couldn't help my heartache when I saw the hope in her eyes. I turned to look at the store lady and instantly gasped as I gave her body a once over. She was gorgeous. I started with her long legs that never ended and traveled up to her cute ass.
