I was laying in my bed on a chilly autumn night. It was close to midnight I think, I don't know, it was hard to tell. But I knew it was late due to my sister, Veronica, sleeping soundly in her bed which was just across the room. It was a night just like any other, or it would have been, if it weren't for that odd copper like smell coming from outside the window. Ignoring the odd smell, I shut my eyes and fell into a peaceful sleep. I woke some time later to what sounded like a struggle down the hall in my parents room. Curiosity and concern drove me as I went to see what was happening as my sister was still asleep. As I got into the hallway, the copper smell from before hit me like a truck. I couldn't understand why it was as pungent as it was. I hurried to my parents room, what greeted me, was anyone's worst nightmare come to life. Standing in the middle of my parents' bedroom, was a big, bearded man with a large, bloody razor. On the ground laid my parents, lacerated and mangled. The bearded man looked at me and smiled. His yellow, rotting teeth were almost as disgusting as the scene that lay before me. I tensed up as he walked to me, unable to move, unable to scream. He patted my head roughly and with a gruff voice said "Good boy." and proceeded to my sister's room, I wanted to scream, shout, do anything to get help from anyone. But my body was frozen, my voice was lost, and I watched helplessly as the man dragged my sister through the living room by her hair to the door and out it. The door slammed shut, and I was left just sitting there, wondering what abominable things he was doing to her. I stared at the door for several seconds before I looked down to my paws. "Damn," I thought "if only I could open doors!".
